    Overflow recommendations

Hi all. I managed to pick up an Iwaki 800+ gph pump , used, for a trade of an AquaClear 300, used. :jumping: I was planning to use my 30 gallon for a sump but need to rethink the plumbing for the external pump. Question is, what would you all recommend for a HOT overflow. Local LFS is pushing...

    Crushed crushed coral

I had crushed coral in my tank and it was horrible, so I removed it all. It has been in storage for over a year and I got to wondering if a person took and crushed it up so that it was more of a sandy texture, would it still have the same problems with cleaning?

    Upgrading

I currently have a 33g FOWLR and I plan to upgrade to a 55g over the weekend but a couple of questions first. I currently have a Green spotted puffer, a 3 stripe damsel, and a bi-color blenny in the tank with one unknown snail. There is about 25 pounds of live rock and only enough crushed coral...

    To much?

Would 1000W of metal halide be to much on a 50 gallon tank?

    Salt creep

As I understand it, when saltwater evaporates only pure water is lost, leaving the salt in the remaining water and raising the sg. I am wondering why if the salt is left in the tank, where does salt creep come from?

    Pump recomendations

I am in the planning stage for a sump on a 230 gallon tank. I am planning 10X turnover and so I am looking for recommended pumps that will handle 2300 GPH at 10 foot of head, friction loss included. I am thinking of two overflows (1 1/2") and a 1 1/2" return line.

    UG filter

Just read another thread where the person was using an UG filter and everyone is recommending for him to remove the filter plates. Not to hijack his thread, I started this one. If a person is using a UG filter and decides to go to other filter methods, could you not leave the UG filter plates...

    Plumbing 230 gal sump

I am soon to be building a 230 gal, 72x30x24 lxwxh, wooden tank as per www.garf.org instructions. I will be using 3/8" (10mm) glass for the front. My question is that I would like to build it for use with a sump. The tank will be freshwater to start, but I want the option of saltwater in the...

    New eel

At the LFS today to buy salt, and looked over the fish in their tanks. This store does not sell marine fish and they have only freshwater tanks, but what do I find, a 12" Snoflake Moray eel. I had to pick him up before some unknowing person did and he is now in my 55 gallon FW tank. My...

    Did I just screw up?

Had my 28 gallon running about 6 months with just normal gravel and about 5 pounds of crushed coral in it to help buffer it. Converted it from fresh to brackish to marine for my Green Spotted Puffer. Decided on the weekend to change the substrate to straight crushed coral and in the middle of...

    Carbon

I was reading on another forum where the person recommended marine grade carbon for a salt tank. Is there a difference and if so, how can I tell? Thanks in advance.

    PH levels

If i use tapwater with a ph of 7.5. will the salt mix help raise this to more siutable levels before adding to the tank or should I add a ph increaser?

    substrate

I am planning to set up a 72 gallon tank and I am wondering if anyone has used the Carib Sea Agra-alive substrates? They claim benificial bacteria, but I am skeptical due to the fact that the bacteria would die in the bag. Am I wrong?

    Damsels

I have read that the 3 stripe damsel is a very aggressive fish towards its own species. I have 2 in a 29 gallon tank, with a GSP, lawnmower blennie and a bicolor blennie and they get along great, schooling and dancing together. Could it be that I have a male and female? How do you tell?

Using tapwater for mixing. I am planning on moving my Angelfish and Acaras out of my 33 gal to my other FW tanks...

    First Timer

Hi all, total newbie here with questions. Sound familiar? I have a 28 gallon tank with a single Green Spotted Puffer about 3" and sg 1.017. Will be going full marine soon and am considering the following options: Aragonite substrate, live rock, 10 gallon sump/refugium, Aquaclear 300 (already...
