    Hermit Crab molting again?

My salt is 1.023. SHould I feed him anything special during the molt or even when he is not molting? He usually just eats the hair algae and brown algae on the rocks and sand.

    Hermit Crab molting again?

:notsure: My stareye hermit crab molted about 6-8 weeks ago. Does anyone know how often they molt? I just want to make sure this is a molt and not an illness. He has been hiding in his shell for a day now and only pops out when I feed my other fish (just like during his last molt). He is my...

    Went from perfection to crash

I have a 15 gallon rubbermade tub that I use for mixing the salt with the water. It has a heater and airstone. Can that be used as a quarantine tank, or do I need a seperate tub for medicating and housing sick fish?

    Went from perfection to crash

The LFS sold me 4 domino and 4 blue devils. I lost one of each so far with one more blue devil almost gone and a faded domino. My guess is that clownfish will not be a good option for my tank now. I had wanted clownfish and a flame angel, but waited for my tank to be more established (aged)...

    Went from perfection to crash

All the dead or dying fish are small in size. They are being picked on by the other fish and try to swim away quickly, but end up losing. Their breathing is fine. The sick ones seem to hover in one spot before they die (near the surface of the water or the floor). They have been hiding more...

    Went from perfection to crash

Sorry, I just realized that I forgot to mention that my salt level is 1.023 and my nitrate tests come clear (0); nitrite clear (0) and ammonia yellow (0). I feed them one small pinch of flake food twice daily. Also, my ph went from 8.1 in May to 7.9 in August. I have been trying to fix it...

    Went from perfection to crash

I am very new to the hobby. I have a 75 gallon tank with wet/dry filter, canister filter, uv sterilizer, power head, and heater. I have lots of rock (not live rock) and large coral to give shelter to my fish. I started the tank in the spring; added 8 damsels (4 domino and 4 blue devil) and a...

    I've been slimed!

I'm not sure. The rock were in a box and the LFS said that they could be used for a Freshwater or Saltwater aquascape. They were filthy (dirt) when I got them home and had to soak them overnight, then rinse them very well before putting them in the tank. They were $2.50 a lb and are quite...

    Nemo!

Wow, this issue is a sore spot for you. I'm am a certified teacher and I understand how to educate children properly. But, I also know that if a child learns to appreciate something, even it is based on a cartoon, then it is worthwhile. My child knows Bambi is a deer, Simba is a lion and Nemo...

    I've been slimed!

I uploaded one more photo hoping that it will help anyone diagnose my problem! :needhelp: The rocks were bone dry when I purchased them. Do you think it is old dead stuff that should have been removed, or am I dealing with something more sinister? Should I roll up my sleeves and scrub off...

    Nemo!

Hey, I agree that kids need to know the "science" behind the animals and not just the cartoon version. But on a happy note, it was my son's love of "Nemo" that go me started in this hobby. I am now happily obsessed with saltwater fish. And I do apologize, I am one of those moms who took...

I finally figured it out using photo software. I hope it is clear enough. :joy:

    I've been slimed!

My camera won't let me change the size to anything smaller than 640x480. The slime-like stuff looks similar to clear jelly, or clear jelly with stuff around it that looks like that cotton-like sac spiders use around their eggs. The stuff that came on the rocks can best be described as looking...

    I've been slimed!

I tried to post a photo, but the file is too large. I'm having problems locating the camera's manual. I'll post as soon as I can figure this camera out! By the way, I am a former Cincinnati resident and still root for the Bengals and Reds! :cheer:

    I've been slimed!

 Background: I have a 75 gallon tank with 80lbs live sand, wet/dry filter, canister filter and uv sterilizer. My chemical levels were all at zero until I developed "snow" in my tank. Thanks to this forum, it was diagnosed as poor circulation, a point my LFS agreed upon. We are buying a...

Help! Dusty tank & low Ph

Quick question... The Remora Pro (40-120 gal) protein skimmer hangs on the back and comes with a pump and I believe a powerhead. Would this be sufficient to agitate my water's surface (especially if I put it on the opposite side of my tank than the return elbow and spray bar)?

Help! Dusty tank & low Ph

No live rock yet...no rock at at all actually. Just live sand and salt water currently. I'm going to begin researching protein skimmers online. Thanks for all the great ideas today...I have a lot to buy it looks like. I may post more questions on this thread as I research the protein...
