What is the "Shelf Life" for NSW and RO/DI water?

I have 2 20gallon brute containers. In one I keep NSW, and the other is for RO/DI water. My question is how long is the NSW good for and how long is RO/DI water good for? NSW container houses a maxijet 900 and a heater, which will run 24/7. Edit/Delete Message

Squidd. Need your help on overflow box.

Would it be ok to have another 90 degree elbow on the output to direct water towards front of tank instead of down? Or is down the best way? Also should both of my outputs be about one inch below water surface? Or should I have one at 2 or 3 inches below water surface and one at one inch...

    Mounting float valve w/o drilling????

I was told almost all glass aquariums are tempered, and that you can't drill tempered glass, but I also read somewhere that the only piece that is tempered is the bottom piece. What do you know about this? I have a Top Fin 29gallon sump that I would like to drill a hole in myself, instead of...

    Mounting float valve w/o drilling????

True, but it won't lift up if you tap a hole in the acrylic bracket and use a nylon screw to secure it with a clamping force on the glass.

    Mounting float valve w/o drilling????

Just make a bracket out of acrylic to hang on the tank. It is an easy DIY project.

High Wattage Lights - Any Issues w/ House Circuits and Fuses Blowing?

As far as I know code is as follows: 12/2 wire for 20amp circuit. 14/2 for 15amp circuit.

High Wattage Lights - Any Issues w/ House Circuits and Fuses Blowing?

This will require running 12/2 wire from tank outlet to new 20amp circuit on breaker box. Tank outlet should be a 20amp GFCI outlet. When I say dedicated that means the only thing on the circuit will be your tank outlet. Your breaker box must have an empty space for new 20 amp breaker to be...

High Wattage Lights - Any Issues w/ House Circuits and Fuses Blowing?

Personally, I would not run more than a total of 1500 watts on a dedicated 20 amp circuit. If your pumps, heaters, and powerheads are going draw more than 500 watts I would seriously think about setting up 2 dedicated 20amp circuits. If you have 2 circuits you can split all your equipment up...

    ro/di unit

From what I have read you can run ro/di line into float valve mounted in sump. Just make sure your ro/di unit has a ASOV (auto shut off valve), otherwise your ro/di will be running all the time. I would also suggest using a ballvalve before the float valve so you can close ro/di line for...

    DIY Auto Water Changer Idea.

I am in the process of setting up my 45gallon reef with 29gallon sump/fuge. My display tank and sump/fuge are on the main level of my house. The sump/fuge is in the stand under the display tank. My plan is to have two 20gallon "BRUTE" containers in the basement directly under the stand...

Do I need to use ro/di water for test run?

I am getting ready to do a test run with freshwater on my 45gallon reef with 29gallon sump/fuge. I was wondering if it is ok to use my well water for the test run? I just bought a new tank because the tank I was planning on using was from my old FW setup which I had treated with copper meds...

Grounding Probe. In the display or sump/fuge?

I am in the process of setting up my 45gallon reef with 29gallon sump/fuge. I will be using a grounding probe and was wondering should it be placed in the display or in the sump/fuge. I will have heaters, aquac remora pro with mag drive, and a magdrive 9.5 return pump in the sump/fuge. The...

Squidd. Need your help on overflow box.

If I have 90lbs of LR in a 45gallon tank and the water line is a half inch below tank rim won't there actually be less then 45gallons of water when you figure displacement for LR? Or does that not matter when calculating turnover? So if I do go with 2 return outflows and 2 maxijet 900's, where...

Squidd. Need your help on overflow box.

Hey there again squidd. I have run into a situation. The 38 gallon I was planning on using was previously used as a FW tank and I used copper based med in it. Needless to say I will be buying a new tank and I was thinking of going with a 45gallon because it has the same dimensions as the 38...

What do I use to clean out old FW tank before going to SW?

What if I can't remeber? I did use Ick med before, but not sure if it was copper based. Is there a way I can tell if the tank will be ok before I set it up? Like maybe filling it with water then testing for copper. If I did use copper based meds can the tank be cleaned or will I have to use...
