    Reef Tank

Not only is it better looking, it is also healthier for your fish. I have a 75g I started as a FO but I had die offs and other problems I don’t have with my reef. After the initial expense of rock and lighting I purchased expensive inverts like hermits and starfish. They are amazing to watch...

Questions about live rock received in the mail...

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in but I will say this. When I got 50lbs live rock via airmail the cycle went like this: day1 - normal levels day3 - slight increase in ammonia day5 - back to normal (no water change) It was a painless. The lr was healthy, purple/pink, and...

    apstasia fear

If it is apstasia I would take care of it quickly. I had one, now I have a tank full. I hated to kill anything living in the tank but now I wish I had done something earlier. It is your tank but the anti apstasia attitude is justified by their rapid proliferation. At this point I cannot even...

    aiptasia...everything on hold

No offence taken. I understand the confusion about peppermint, cleaners and camels. My LFS understood too. I wanted the ones that ate aiptasia. They directed me away from the camels. Strangely, I have not seen them since I put them in the tank. I am encouraged by your experience. I will buy...

    aiptasia...everything on hold

The 2 shrimp I purchased were peppermint shrimp. Do you think they may have been too small for the job? The aiptasia are an inch and a half at the largest. Pobably 10 total of the large 30 – 50 more of the smaller ones.

    Coral Beauty

I had not heard lettuce was bad for their systems. Good to know. I would suggest clipping something in the tank though. Use seaweed. He might be more willing to eat if he isn’t worrying about hiding from you. Mine hides from me too. It took a week before he would come out when I was near the tank.

    Coral Beauty

Coral Beauty is a herbivore. Try feeding frozen veggies from your lfs. Mine didn’t eat the food I put in for several days but she did eat the algae growing on the tank glass. They will also nibble on lettuce, so you can clip some of that in the tank.

What type of clown is the coolest?

Maroon clowns are my favorite, but get a pair right from the beginning if you want more than one.

Who is eating my crabs =(

I also have a cleaner crew from this site. Talk about a clean tank. I thought the same thing. Until I finally found a web site on hermits. They are molting -the exoskeleton falls from the shell as if the crab has died. Crabs are vulnerable until their outer shells hardens.

Paul, A one-month-old tank. That is a young’n. Have you run the standard test on your water? If so what are the readings-ammonia, ph, alk, nitrite, nitrate, temperature? In all the books I have read 30-50gal. was the minimum size recommended for a saltwater tank. It is going to be...

    Unknown Toxin

I have tried to think of anything out of the ordinary. I use RO water from a store in town, nothing new there. I feed brim shrimp and veggies all frozen and from the pet store. This last batch of shrimp is getting tossed out even thought when I asked the lfs about food being a problem they...

    Unknown Toxin

The PH is a little low. I normally keep it at 8.2. The gravity is .022. The fish were acclimated using the technique this sight recommends. All the fish had been in the tank for a month or more before the die off occurred.

    Unknown Toxin

No the fish were added gradually. I had one from a previous tank that went in first and then I added the rest about one a month. The amonia level is 0. Like I said I had all the test redone by the lfs and they said it all checked out fine. Somehow, a net placed on the floor, a cleaner used...

    Unknown Toxin

I have a 70 gal tank with a wet dry filter, protein skimmer,LS, shells and coral for decoration. It has been running for over 4 months with the following reading: Nitrite - 0, Nitrate - 5, PH 8.0, Alk 1.7, (rechecked by lfs) Temp 78. I had a powder tang, a damsel, a pajama fish and a maroon...

    Tap water purifier

This is a general question in response to reading another post. Someone mentioned getting a "Water purifier for $28.95 that you just attaches to any faucet and treats 50-150 gallons of water and it works great." Is this a safe why to add water in a tank or should a person stick with a RO...
