I'm a newbie and I am planning on buying some live rock from saltwaterfish.com for my 29 gal. I know that you have to cure the rock some before putting it into the tank, but I am not real sure on how to do this the correct way. Could somebody help a beginner out?

I got some bubbles when I put the vinegar on it but only for a second or two.

How much is the sand supposed to fizzle when you put the venagar on it to know if u can use it in the tank or not.

I am trying to save money with my tank. A couple of people have told me of a vinegar test for sand. I was wondering if I could buy sand from Wal Mart or something and put it in my tank and if I put vinegar on it and it fizzes then it is good for my tank. Is this foreal?

Do i have to put live sand in my tank or is there a certain kind of regular sand that I can get from Wal-Mart or somewhere else that will do the same thing??

I hear a lot about protein skimmers. Are they really a must have item for my tank or can I get along without one?

That is what my LFS recommended when I was setting up the tank. At the time I really did not no anything at all about saltwater. I have learned alot since then though and I wish I did have sand in there.

Sounds cool. I just have CC, 5 1/2 pounds of LR that maxi 600 and the filter that came with the tank. I also have 3 perc clowns that are doin real good so far. I am planning on getting more LR when I get some money. I was a little scared about putting them in there so early like I did...

I just recently bought a maxi jet 600 for my 29 gal and I am wondering where and how to position it. How did u guys do yours? Also should I keep the jet pointed up towards the surface or straight across the tank?
