Oh the mushroom looks lighter then it is because of the way I took the photo. And the mushroom is usually flat and not wrinkled like the pic. I'll try and get another pic of it when it looks better. But what is the little thing hanging off of it?

Is my mushroom budding into another mushroom? I've only had it for about a week. I took the pic yesterday and today morning the little extra mushroom was gone. Its in the lower right hand corner of the pic. It seems like a miniature shroom is hanging of thew original.

Unfortunately, my setup is such that the filter, biowheel and the lights are built into the hood, so if i replace one I have to replace all. I will replace it eventually, but right now that may be a little too expensive

I was at my LFS and bought a single mushroom polyp (green) to see if it will get enough light. I hope it does well and that will show that I might be able to have corals/clams. If it doesn't then corals/clams will just have to wait till I get better hood and lights.

Sponges huh? Well as long as they are harmless and don't need to be feed they'll make a nice addition to my tank :happyfish Now the tiny white snails seem to be a minor annoyance. Is there anything that should be done to regulate their population or will they just eventually fade away?

I heard that cleaner clams help with nitrates. You might want to look into getting a few.
