    Vacation troubles

Seal it off temporarily with cling wrap or something. Leave a bit of air ventilation for oxygen flow but decrease the amount of area that if available for evaporation. Also, add a bit more fresh water than usual before you leave...Not enough to change the salinity significantly but as much as...

    Need some info on tnk

Yellow looks like sponge to me! I'm not sure if the brown stuff is detritus or algae...Is it actually growing on the rock or is it floating around? If it's growing it's likely some sort of algae. Algae will grow if there is too much nutrients in the system or you are set up under lights that...

So, I need help with starting my aquarium.

Yes, you can add corals later on if you decide. I too decided on a fish only aquarium when I first started saltwater but after a few years decided to switch to corals. At that point you'll have to make sure the livestock you already have is compatible with corals and get some lights strong...

    Feeding success ORA aquacultured mandarin

Any other comments on their feeding success or general behavior? Do they seem to become less skiddish/shy with time?

    Feeding success ORA aquacultured mandarin

Hi, I just saw that swf is selling ORA aquacultured mandarins and that they should eat frozen food without a problem. Any comments on this from someone who has one. I've wanted a mandarin for a long time and would love to get one that didn't rely solely on copepods. Thanks!

    Will this work?

While I love the idea of a 6 lamp setup, I was able to find a 4 lamp T5 HO setup for about 180 which is much more affordable for me at the moment. Pretty excited about it and I think my corals will be happy for the most part as well :)

    Will this work?

Which ones are considered moon lights? Are the blue actinics moon lights? Most of the fixtures with more than 2 lights seem to come with actinics as the extra bulbs.

    Will this work?

Ugh, First of all, I recognize that I am mostly talking to myself here, but I'm hoping some people with more experience will chime in at some point and also it's a way to document my thought process. Of course I though replacing the plastic with acrylic would be easy (just get some acrylic and...

    Will this work?

I feel a bit crazy trying to make up my mind :S It's just that there are so many options! I found an old thread that said someone replaced the plastic with acrylic and had no problem using the metal halide after that and I'm thinking of doing the same now that I've see this. It doesn't sound too...

    Will this work?

Okay, I found a system at has two 2X39w T5 HO's and 6 blue moonlight LED's, how does that sound? Do the LEDs give it enough of a boost for the anemones and corals? Also, in general, how do you know when to change out lights? Can you just wait until they burn out or does it need to be more...

Thanks so much for the input! Electronics are not my strongpoint :S

    Will this work?

Yeah, I've seen a few of the double halide fixtures, but they get pricey fast! I just called my local fish store, about the only one in the area that deals with saltwater and is at all knowledgeable on the subject. The guy I talked to said I could do a T5 HO setup and it would work for anemones...

    Will this work?

I just bought a 46g bowfront tank and I was hoping to use 36" Metal Halide Aquarium Reef Light Lunar HQI 442W (see picture). The problem is the bowfront has a supportive strip running across the top (see picture) that will block out the best light from the metal halide. Can I just wrap foil...

Help with Lights 28g Via Aqua AR620

That might be possible...I'm not super handy so I want to avoid doing anything that takes too much experience but if it's a matter of fitting a lamp and fan on there I may be able to do that. Someone on a different forum suggested using a IceCap 430 ballast. The post was from 5 years ago but...

Help with Lights 28g Via Aqua AR620

Okay, I posted this in the lighting section but haven't gotten any responses in the past 24 hours, I thought it might get better exposure here... I'm trying to set up my aquarium with lighting for growing corals. I don't want to grow anything too difficult, but want to make sure I have adequate...

Help with lighting 28g Via Aqua AR60

Hi, I'm trying to set up my aquarium with lighting for growing corals. I don't want to grow anything too difficult, but want to make sure I have adequate lighting so the corals I do grow will thrive. Problem is: it appears that the tank I have (28g Via Aqua AR620) has housing for 13" fluorescent...

    ViaAqua® AR620 Installation Help

Okay, I figured it out. Just in case someone has a problem like this in the future, the piece that connects the elbow to the powerhead has to come off before you can twist it into the hood (it may look like it's permanently on there but a but of wiggling will get it off), you place it on after...

    ViaAqua® AR620 Installation Help

Okay, update...I know I'm the only one posting and this link will tell you why... http://kazza.id.au/2003/02/aqua-one-...ort-forum.html As srfisher17 said, don't buy products from companies that don't have good tech support. I bought this tank off of craigslist and it was an amazing deal...

    ViaAqua® AR620 Installation Help

Someone out there has to have one of these tanks! Obviously they aren't as easy to put together as they suggested, but they do look good :) Okay, so I still can't figure this out. I contacted Commodity Axis, they don't have a phone number, just fax and email. I emailed and they sent me the...

    ViaAqua® AR620 Installation Help

Anyone? The guy I bought the tank from called me back while I was sleeping and his voice message said to thread the power chord through and then do a 1/4 twist with the powerhead and it would secure it into place but I cannot for the life of me position the powerhead to make this happen. I'm...
