help, my snowflake hasn't eaten for 2 weeks

Thanks all for the quick replies. Guess I won't worry too much for a while more. I live in a pretty (pun intended) isolated part of Montana and finding different foods such as squid, ghost shrimp and even gold fish is hard to come by. We're talking 150 mile round trip to the closest aquarium...

help, my snowflake hasn't eaten for 2 weeks

My 12" snowflake eel just quit eating. He used to be pretty aggressive and latch onto any meaty food (shrimp, fish, krill)I gave him with a feeding stick. Now he barley gives it a second look. Other fish in this tank are doing fine, no sign of disease. He looks fine but I can't imagine he can go...

    tank raised perculas and anemones

This has probably been asked before but I am not a "regular". Do tank raised percula clownfish associate with host anemones? I have heard that they won't becaue they don't know how to. Does anyone have personal experience with this?

Well, thank you all for the input, unfortunately nothing helped. I ended up cutting off half of one arm and the tip of another that was starting to do the same thing. Lionfish has turned dark, why?

Thanks for replying. The temp is at 79 degrees. Salinity is at .024, a bit high I know but could this really be that bad? He is relatively small, about 6-7 inches. He (or she?) actualy looked a bit better today, a little lighter in color and moving around a bit more. Lighting is just a 15 watt...

blue linka's arm is rotting away, help!

I have a new blue linka starfish, only 10 days old and the tip of one arm is all opened up and seems to be rotting away. What should I do? The closest store (where I bought it) is 80 miles away so I have little immediate local help. Thanks.

    Lionfish has turned dark, why?

I purchased a lionfish about 10 days ago. He has turned very dark in color, much deeper browns than he was in the store. He is eating chunks of raw shrimp fine but hides a lot behind rocks and does not move around very much. He is the only fish in this 20 gal, tank. Salinity, Ph, amonia and...

    phosphate/silicate remover?

I have read about compounds that can remove phosphate and silicates on another saltwater site. You put them in "bags" and change every 5 days for 4-5 treatments. Does anyone know where you can but these compunds online? I have recurring blooms of brown diatoms and would like to get rid of the...

    PH level

Beth, distilled water should have a PH 7.0, this may vary slightly but not much, just 1/10th or so. This being so I can't imagine that using distilled water would have anything to do with RAISING your PH. Have you tested the PH right out of the bottle?

    coraline algae and "cured" rock

A local dealer has some live rock with beautiful coraline growing on it. He said that after it cures and is ready for sale all the coraline will be gone. Is this right? I kinda was under the impression that you could keep the colored algae alive. I am in the process of planning a reef tank so I...

    filter/skimmers

It sounds to me like most are not happy with the "Skilter" skimmer filter. Now I would appreciate finding out more about the "Cyclone Backpack" models of filter/skimmers or anyother brand people are happy with. This is for an established 29 gallon tank that I wish to convert to a reef tank.

    skilter filter?

Hi, I have a small 29 gal. tank that has fish and inverts but not corals. I want to venture into some "beginner" corals and need advice on filtration. All I have is an undergravel filter. Can you recommend a mechanical filter/skimmer product for a small aquarium. I have read about the "Skilter"...
