    average lifespan of shrimps

I've read 3 years average lifespan - I don't know though how long it is from birth to adult size as that is what all the LFS sell them at (adult sized). As a guess I would say a year to a year and a half? assuming they spend half their life getting to be adult sized. ~T

    my shrimp has eggs!

I'll be watching this thread - I have two cleaners that are caring eggs and one of them had them hatch last night - the tank was full of lil (barely visible until you put a flashlight on them - then they would swarm in to the flashlight beam). I shut down my skimmer and the recalculation pump...

    Cleaner Shrimp babies

My cleaners started caring eggs a week or so ago and the 1st one "dropped" her eggs a few days ago - tonight there was a haze in the water under the night lights and upon further examination it was dozens of little baby shrimp! I shut off my skimmer and the main recirculate pump for the evening...

    Nitrate reduction

I have fought and fought Nitrates for over a year now (admited I could stand to do more water changes but that salt adds up cost wise). I have not tried this stuff, looks like something to at least give a shot with. Thanks for the revival and heads up ~T

    DIY skimmer air ventures

I did find a site that talked about how to make ones own and I tried one (granted I think it was with a cheepy fitting that didn't "squeeze" down enough but mine didn't work - not even a little I am gonna have to hit the hardware store tomorrow and pick up a few to experiment with Any tips or...

    DIY skimmer air ventures

I have a nice skimmer but the venturi part is in a bad spot and gets broken every time I do maintenance on the skimmer and to buy a replacement each time is getting a little ridiculous. Last night I worked up a better way for the plumbing to run that would eliminate a lot of the hassles but I...

    Classifieds Seller's Feedback

Purchased a CPR overflow from Nancysalt - it arrived today and was well packed and in terrific shape, bulkhead and seal looked brand new, aqua lifter and filter were in origonal packing (I believe they might be brand new as well?) Only the overflow itself showed signs of use and that was only by...

Not a hitchhiker but still needing a ID

While hes (it) isn't a hitchhiker I'm hoping that this will be the best place to get a ID for this guy: I got him a couple days ago from the LFS and he is really cool - stretched out to about 24 inches and thus far has cleaned all my frags without knocking a single one over (unlike my black...

    3 Dead Cleaner Clams

I have done the grocery store route a couple times and have seen them take 3 or 4 days to bury themselves, I wouldn't worry to much until you see them open up/being eaten.

    Hair Algae

Might try a Sea Hare - I had a tank break out with hair like that and it being a aggressive tank everything i put in (snails hermits ect) became expensive trigger snacks. It was suggested to me to try a sea hare and I thought "Sure - another snack for the trigers) but they left it alone and...

    new to starfish..what to feed

Only thing I have found that survived my triggers were sea hare's - my triggers turned on my stars shortly after adding them to the tank, that's when I had to set up another display tank and make it an aggressive only tank....... I did have 3 or 4 giant scarlet hermits that lived in the tank for...
