    Lost 2 fish

Beth, I just recently lost 2 fish that I have had in my 29 gal for quite some time. I had a flame angel that died with very few symptoms and died quite quickly. He was in my tank for about 3 months and was extremely healthy and eating regularly prior to dying. My real loss was today. I lost a...

    Nitrates

Question: Besides water changes, LR and a DSB, is there any other way to reduce Nitrates in a tank? Diz

    Sea Life or Enheim Wet/Dry

Question for those who know wet/dry's... I am looking to purchase now either the Sea Life Wet/Dry (60 or 75) that Saltwaterfish sells, or an Enheim 2227 Wet/Dry Cannister filter, or the CPR 500. I have heard pros and cons of all of them. Enheim is quieter, smaller, but is more difficult to...

    Enheim Cannister Filters

The place I am looking to purchase doesn't even have that 2227, so it must be pricey. They have the 2224 selling for $139.99. I will definitely look into it though. Currently, I have 3 power heads going with my PS. I have a lot of current in there, but if I could remove them, it sure would...

    Enheim Cannister Filters

Sorry, but I should have given more info. 29-gal Tank running for 1-year Prizm Protein Skimmer 35-lbs LR Used to have a biowheel, but too much maintenance, that is why I wanted to switch to a cannister filter. I am now looking at Enheim 2222 and have found a place that sells it at 119.99. Diz

    Enheim Cannister Filters

Detrius coming out with my over the back was a problem too during cleaning. If I have to do less work, that is always a good thing. I just want to make sure that the cannister filter I buy is the correct size. Right now I have live rock, fish, and inverts...no corals. How do you clean yours...

    Enheim Cannister Filters

My tank is only 29 gallons, so the 2227 might be overkill for me. I was reading that adding the substrates will act as a biological filter, which I need right now since I am not running an over the back filter either. Do you think I should go a little higher on the model number then? Like the...

    Enheim Cannister Filters

I have heard many good things about the Enheim Cannister Filters (very bad things about Fluval). What is everyone's opinion on that? (the 2213 is what I am planning on buying). TIA Diz

feather duster question please help vey important!!!!!!!!!

That is correct. They do eventually grow back. The best thing to check for is the firmness of the tube. While the worm is still alive, the tube should feel solid. When the worm dies, he sometimes will protrude out of the tube and the tube will become soft. Diz

    Lawnmower Goby Feeding Question

Question: I picked up a Lawnmower Goby to help with my algae growth and was wondering what, if any, food supplements he might take to. Does anyone who has a lawnmower feed any additional food to it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Diz

    protein skimmer

I have had a similar problem. There are two prongs on the upper over flow cup that you can attach the air hose. I have it attached to the left one (when facing the back of the tank - standing in front). This prong does not allow air in and keeps the water level too low to have any over flow...

    Please Read/Respond

Since there are two dead, that would be considered an anomaly rather than coincidence. I would look at the non-recurring variables that week. First off, people will say that your nitrates could be a little high and that your nitrites should be at 0. I agree and the water change can't hurt...

    cycling on the way!!

SWF.com has some great deals on Cleanup Crews. I would suggest holding off on the linkia stars for a while. They tend to be not nearly as hardy as, say, a brittle or sand star. It all depends on the size of your tank, on how much you buy. It also depends on how much algae you have growing in...

What do your fish think when they look at you?

Mine say, This species (homo erectus) is quite territorial. The male of the species never leaves the confines of his sitting device and will become quite hostile at any other creature who is in his place when he is present. Another demonstration of the male's territorialism is that the small...

    (broomer5) coral banded shrimp questions

My CBanded is doing quite well. Lighting shouldn't be an issue. He's a scavenger and will eat your leftovers and certain algaes. I will also throw in a few shrimp/lobster pellets and he and the rest of my inverts go nuts. They attack them so ferociously that they are gone before they reach...

thoughts on the Red Sea Prizm protein skimmer please

I have had mine on for about a month. The water is moving in the proper manner inside, but I have yet to see any overflow. Should I be happy with this? or be concerned? It's on a 29-gal with an OTB Filter. I have only a False Perc and Firefish Gobie, 35 lbs lr, 3 peppermint, 1 coral banded...

    My 1st Saltwaterfish.com ordering experience

I also ordered a Blue Linkia star in my original cleanup crew order. Died 6 days later. I think the tank may need to be better established. Healthy algae growth for the star to eat and stable water conditions are a must. I will probably try again in about another 6 months. Everything else...
