I can see why this site is losing so many members. Used to come on here and have good, informed conversation. You can take your arguments elsewhere, I'm done with this thread.

Additionally, I'm rocking a Nikon 5100 DSLR so I hope to have some amazing photos and video. Cart before the horse, but I'm excited. Lighting question. So for a 260 gal tank, how many LEDs. I haven't really done the research on the lights, but this information will help a lot. Thank you.

my 435 gallon tank in wall see through upgrade

Thank you, Gemmy. Now all I need to do is get a degree in electronics to build my own LED fixture. :( For some reason, I can not wrap my head around putting together an LED fixture... Beautiful tank though. The most exciting part of my electrical engineering degree :)

Oh my, I got away from my own thread. I didn't get my email updates. I'm excited that it's possible to run solely from LEDs. I have a few ideas for complete ballast design as well as a programmable dimmer from sunrise to sunset. I will need to do a bit of research into colors and ratios, but...

    Site help

Hi all, I've been away from the site for a while and am sad to see it's turning into a ghost town. There is a "central" site I'd like to access but am unable to register. I'm not trying to break any rules here, but I'd like to be able to stay current with active hobbyists. If someone could mail...

Hey flower, thanks so much. I've actually been a member here about eleven years and have always enjoyed the members and experiences. The book you mentioned is one of my favorites. But you may have struck gold for me. I forgot about the schooling habits of the flasher wrasse, and that's just...

Hello all, I'm in the process of planning out a new tank. My wife and I plan to move within the year to a permanent residence. The old "dream home" theory. Naturally there must be a giant fish tank. This is huge for me because this will be the first tank i get to make with my son (7 mos)...

    Red Slime/Algae problem

Lighting definitely has an effect on cyano. When lights get older, their spectrum starts to fade. As the spectrum loses it's strength, you create an ideal situation for cyanobacteria. What type of lighting are you running, and when was the last time the bulbs were replaced? As far as feeding...

    Yellow watchman issue

Yeah 2 = bad news bears. Typically when "losing" a goby check two things. 1. the floor. carpet diving is common among gobies. 2. rocks. sometimes fish can be sneaky little guys as you've noticed. If you think a fish died, typically you'll see a body somewhere along the way. Aquarium...

    Hitchhiker ID

The bottom pic looks like a coral skeleton and part of the rock. The top one could be any kind of small coral that comes along with live rock. Hard to say though. Does the bottom one seem independent of the rock?

Fish compatability in a new tank

That book is like a bible for this hobby. Scott Michael does an excellent job describing each species and its requirements. What kind of lionfish are you thinking of? You might, and it's a big might, be able to get away with a dwarf, but any other lion will eat your clownfish, your shrimp...

    yellow, pink,purple and green algae!!!

Can you post some pics? Is the pink and purple algae hard and formed to the rocks? If so, probably coraline, which is good. The green or yellow could be any number of things which pics can help to narrow down.

A power head or even just waving your hand by it will get the sand off. It's not a big deal.
