    Reef Jump start

I have never glued my rock. I just arrange it so it won't fall over. As for Corals, I have never had any so I don't know.

    Reef Jump start

The bacteria is in your live rock and your substrate. Water has little to do with the normal cycling process.

    Southdown Substitute

Has anyone used anything other than Southdown in a deep sand bed. I called Southdown/Cemex and they said that they don't sell the tropical sand anymore. I think that is total BS! I called our local Home Depot here in Minnesota and they said that they could order it for me, but it would be a 10...

    250W Halides on a 180 Acrylic

I guess my question is will the heat of the 250W lights deform the acrylic? and what should the distance be from bulb to the acrylic? Thanks,

    250W Halides on a 180 Acrylic

What are the possibilities of running 3-250w MH bulbs on a 180 Gallon Acrylic Aquarium. I was going to purchase a glass tank but got such a steal on this used acrylic setup, that I had to get it. I want the MH lights for the corals, but worry about the heat from the bulbs. Has anyone run...

    Battery operated heaters?

I live in Minnesota and almost all of our power outages happen in the summer due to everyone starting up the A/C in this hot humid weather. We have never had a problem in the winter. Most all outages in the winter have no affect due to the fact that the heating runs on natural gas or propane...

    Glass or Acrylic?

Acrylic is as clear is glass, and even moreso. All glass will give you a green hue that cannot be taken out. I agree acrylic is good, but trying to remove coraling from a acrylic tank will most likely scratch it. For reef tanks the only way to go is Glass. Just my 2 cents The only thig is...

    Overflow Drilled or Hang on

I just emailed Perfecto and they informed me that there are no tempered panels on the 220G.

Powder Blue or Brown in a 75g?

The tank should be as big as possible. I would use a 30G for a minimum of 4 weeks. Just my 2cents.

Powder Blue or Brown in a 75g?

I go to Something Fishy, and World of Fish. Something Fishy's prices are somewhat ok? A World of Fish to me is pretty outrageous. I must say that both of these stores have quality fish and are for the most part disease free. But, you pay top dollar for quality fish. Forest Lake Pets have...

Powder Blue or Brown in a 75g?

I agree. Why put your whole tank at risk. A QT will have no more stress than your show tank, and it will keep all your other fish safe. ??? Sorry sweetjesus, I hate to disagree with my fellow Minnesotan, but this is just my 2 cents.

    Overflow Drilled or Hang on

Thanks everyone. I am going with the drilled. I think I'm going to get the 180g instead of the 220g though. The price of the 220g is just too much.

    Overflow Drilled or Hang on

I am in the process of aquiring a 220G perfecto aquarium. I would like to know if there is a good/reliable hang on overflow that is low maintenance. I like the reliability of the drilled tanks. I am worried that the hang-on overflows will loose suction and the pump will drain the sump over...

    powder blue tang

I have had a blue tang, yellow tang, hippo tang, maroon clown and a blue masked angel in a 90g. for about a year. They are doing great. The maroon is a little territorial but not too bad. They are to the size now that they will not be happy for much longer. I am in the process of purchasing...

Powder Blue or Brown in a 75g?

It has been my experience that if you can get any tang through the first batch of Ick, you will be home free. I have 3 tangs. yellow eye, hippo, yellow. They all have gone through an Ick stage and survived, never to get ick again. On the other hand I had a powder blue that just didn't make...

    Snail Problem

I have solved my snail problem. Today I bought a 5" Picasso Trigger. He has crunched a few of the snails. He seems to like them.
