    My fish keep dying!

I'm a little confused. I understand the concept of osmotic shock but how would you acclimate a fish over 5 days?

    My fish keep dying!

Bob, Honestly I wasn't aware that angels needed a mature tank, so thanks. I know it sounds a bit hurried but I have never had more than two fish in the tank at one time due to the continued deaths. My params are listed below, sorry bout that. PH 8.2 SG 1.023 Amm 0 NO2 0 NO3 10-15 Alk...

    My fish keep dying!

Yeah I thought Mantis shrimp at one point too but besides the dottyback, which was really strange, I have found no instance of damage to the fish. I have heard that Sally Lightfoot can be aggressive but he seems to leave the clownfish alone.

    My fish keep dying!

Most of my fish have come from the same LFS. Not sure what the SG of their tanks are but I will find out. The first CBA came from SWF.com. Not sure what other details I can provide. I usually temp acclimate first then drip acclimate over a few hours. The deaths always seem to be occuring at...

    My fish keep dying!

No, thats the unusual thing. They all seem to be fine and a few hours later they are dead. I had thought about that at one point too but it seems so fast for a disease. I posted the sam question on the disease forum to see if anyone there had an idea.

    My fish keep dying!

Hi everyone, I am getting very frustrated so I am hoping someone here can shed some light on whats going on. In 4 months I have had 5 fish and 4 of them have died. I started my first SW tank about four months ago. Its a 55 reg with 70lbs of LR and LS. After the initial cycle I added a CUC and a...

    SLF problems

Interesting to see this thread. I recently lost(like missing) an orchid dottyback. One day he was there the next he wasnt. I too have a SLF. I'm now wondering if he is the culprit. He is about the same size as yours(3 in or so). I have heard they are next to impossible to catch though...

New to the hobby, new to the site. Few Questions.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with just a ***** as well. Although I have to say I have had good luck there. They have a few people in the fish dept. that seem to know what they are doing. I have also bought from SWF and have always gotten good fish and corals. I guess what i'm saying is don't...

    Macro in sump

I have heard of people mixing macros in the sump, mangroves and cheato for example. In theory the plants should start removing CO2 and nitrates right off. There is some good info on macros at reefcleaners.org.

Bicolor Angel died after about 36 hours

I lost a coral beauty after about the same amount of time in a tank about the same age recently. I think mine was a combination of not using ro/di and microbubbles. Added some bubble traps and the ro/di unit is being delivered today, then we'll give it another go.

Live Sand Question? Can you mix Live Sand with Regular to seed it?

You can certainly mix the two imo. Time would depend on how much live vs. regular sand you use. More live sand= less time for regular sand to become "live".

need help setting up 55 gallon fowlr

Welcome! I just set up a 55 regular a few month ago. I spent somewhere in the 800-1000 range for all equipment and rock. I started with 50 lbs of rock and added another 25 cause I didn't think it looked "full" enough. Depends on your preferences. I personally wouldn't go any less than 50lbs...

    Tubeworm/Featherduster help?

I had some small feather dusters on my live rock as well when I began to cycle. Mine survived the cycle just fine. They should be fine as long as you have some powerheads for waterflow. Featherdusters are filter feeders and get everything they need from particles in the water.

Check out my new surface skimmer/overflow invention:

Thats awesome. *** If you have a router with a sharp enough bit you should be able to drill a hole to start, insert the router bit, whatever thickness you want, and get yourself a nice straight line if you use a jig.

    Young and Inexpereanced. Please help.

I would think any "food" that will decay would be fine, but I'll let some of the more experienced here answer that. It is my understanding that cycling is done best without any filtration or even lighting running during the cycle as the filtration can affect the bacterial growth which is the...

    Young and Inexpereanced. Please help.

Yeah, the kind you eat. I believe most people use raw, not frozen. I've also heard of people using fish food and feeding "ghost" fish for awhile. The food will decay and kick off a cycle. Depending on the live rock you get (cured vs. uncured) there may be enough die off on the rock to start...

Very discouraged, please help ID my problem

Thanks everyone, I think I will get an Ro/DI unit and do a few large water changes to start with. I guess the new T5s will have to wait until the "tank fund" is built back up. lol. Im also going to re-do my sump with a fuge and some macros to help with CO2 and Nitrate levels. Thanks again!
