    ORA Mandarin question

Interesting I was under the impression that the ORA ones were 100% eating flake/pellet/etc.

    ORA Mandarin question

Wondering what the consensus is on how small is too small for an ORA mandarin? I had a few saltwater setups before, stopped them all for one reason or another, but my wife would like a mandarin and I'd like to make her happy :) I figure whatever I do will be a simple setup, low light, FOWLR...

    Bleached anemone ID

Also when I got it, it was more bleached, the foot was white and the tentacles were transparent. It's come a LONG way already. I'm at the point where I don't think it's going to die. Why a store would buy an RBTA from their wholesaler and not put it in the coral area with halides, but instead...

    Bleached anemone ID

I'm not sure if my other post went through or not, but I'm feeding it mysis and SF-Bay "whole shrimp" on an alternating schedule, and the GSM also does birdie type feeding whenever it eats. The hard part is keeping the thieving fire shrimp away until it eats :)

    Bleached anemone ID

Free, it was a "rescue" I get lots of "rescue" stuff from the LFS here.

    Bleached anemone ID

I was told that it is an RBTA that was bleached (it was in a tank with NO lighting for a month without supplemental feeds). It hated light the first few weeks (probably the change from NO to halide). My GSM found it VERY quickly and has been bringing it food, plus I feed it krill every other...

Few questions, new 90 gallon setup

I just got a 90 gallon that I'm setting up, not sure if it will be fowlr or reef yet (based on lighting budget frankly) and I have a few questions. First off how much volume of water should be moving through the sump? I am going to do an overflow box as the tank isnt drilled and its just...

    90 gallon stock list

Okay well I picked up the 90, cant beat 90 w/ stand for 100 bux. I've rethunk my stocklist and I'm thinking the following Blue spotted toby Niger trigger (it's a maybe) Carribean blue tang Blue eye two spot tang (I know the 1 tang in 4 feet rule but I think I'll be okay as this one stays small...

    90 gallon stock list

Thanks...I didn't realize the rock beauty was one of the sponge requiring types. The fact they swim in the open is why I want a full size angel. Do you think if I had a 125 I could do this: Full size angel (emperor, koran, or majestic) Kole tank a Zebrasoma genus tang, very hard to pick...

    90 gallon stock list

Okay I'm getting a 90 gallon shortly, not sure what size sump but at least 30 gallons, and i'm still figuring out the skimmer but anyway I wanted to know what ppl thought of this stock list Rock beauty angel (smallest full size one from what I understand). Powder blue tang Kole Tang Raccoon...

    BIG FISH

One thing ive seen done with a 72 bow is a pair of maroon clowns, and like 8 damsels (just stay away from striped and domino) and when the damsels are full size get a tiny snowflake (oh and have a skimmer that most people would put on a 125, so rated 200+ gallons). The snowflake wont be...

    Some general questions before starting...

I've been going back and forth and back and forth on what to do with this oddball tank. I've actually decided to make it a "maxi-nano" One of my LFS guys is VERY trusted (and holds a masters in marine biology teaching at the local college) and gave me a list of fish and the order to add them in...

    Some general questions before starting...

Yeah I have a separate tank that I could probably try to raise some fry, I spoke to my ORA guy and erectus are cheaper to begin with so I think that's going to be my choice. I've been looking into tank mates and I think I'm going to do some bangaii cardinals, a mandarin dragonette (ORA mysis...

    Some general questions before starting...

Thanks Nova. My 56 is a standard column, its 30 wide 18 deep and 24 high, so for putting fish, I basically have to pretend its a 29 gallon because of the 30 inch length, even though its a deep and tall as a 90 gallon. But I got the tank, stand and canopy for 50 bux, an emperor 280 (which I...

    Some general questions before starting...

Yeah I just spoke with one of my favorite LFS owners, he keeps horses himself at home, and he is set up with ORA. He can get me black or colored erectus and with my reef club discount the price is pretty darn good. He told me he'd set up a tank in the store just for them (it was actually a...

    Some general questions before starting...

Thanks :) I'm thinking the protein skimmer probably oxygenates the water quite a bid so I doubt an air line will be needed. I was just playing with my tank temps (its mid-cycle) and I can maintain 76-77 with the halides on, 74-75 lights out (I keep my house cool). This temp range is a new...

    Some general questions before starting...

Okay I have a 56 gallon tank and my local reef club has basically informed me that due to the particular dimensions (30x18x24) it's basically to be stocked like a nano tank, but I can have more quantity of course, but no fish over 5 inches. The other suggestion was seahorses, which I've long...

56 gallon and a pair of maroon clowns

Okay I have a 56 gallon, which is 30 x 18 x 24 albeit height isnt important in most cases. I definitely want this pair of maroon clowns my LFS has, they are the most orange I've ever seen, more orange than most percula clowns, and almost neon/glowing. Anyway, I wanted to find out what else I...

    what are those?

If you dont like those feather dusters, get any small puffer/toby, like a sharp nose or valentini, you wont have any more within an hour :)

    ID PLEASE!!

If they stay in the rock, and just kinda "stick out" in the middle of the water its probably micro stars inside the rock. I had a rock that had to have 1000 in it, but uhm, my toby took care of that :(
