My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

Silicon is RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) I use it at work all the time, guess the hobby/aquarium tubes don't say RTV, but the same thing.

Something new to add to the piece of s*%^ list. This Kent Phos-reactor is a POS. Some of the fittings that were glued in leak. Can't remove them to re-glue them without breaking them. The one I fixed isn't leaking. Guess I'll go back to the bags in the filter. I think everything I have ever...

As for the reactor, Do not use RTV sealant. It's toxic when submerged in water. I used Aquarium grade RTV, it worked great. How have you been building your sumps if you haven't been using RTV?

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

I use/used macroalgae in refugiums, really deep sand beds, algae scrubbers, water changes, low bioloads and abundance of live rock and high flow rates... You don't have to have a skimmer at all. I'm just saying - there are other options out there. lol. That sounds like a much better...

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

More questions ...sorry but i want to get this right the first time ....probably not but at lease close. I am not real keen on spending $200 on a skimmer. I have seen them on Ebay for $40 to $60 and saw a Sea Clone tonight in the local Pet Club store for $140 ($70 to $90 online). Is the Sea...

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

Is it the drain line or input line of the reactor? Not sure why that would matter but it's the drain line, more accurately, the return line.

Got a phosphate reactor but one of the tubes in the lid is loose. Not worth taking back for, an easy fix I'm just not sure what cement will be OK to use. Do you think polystyrene model cement will be OK. If not what do you suggest? Would silicon RTV be better?

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

What about the Mag Drive 9.5 internal submersible pump. ~$108. You said I would need one of these in a earlier post but you don't list it. Is my tank size the reason for the $100 pump rather than the $23 pump? 90 bucks is not bad, I was figuring 200. Of course I would need a bigger OF box so...

Good to hear, i had my worries about the HOB OFB but it sounds like it's rare there are issues. Did you (acrylic51 and Saxman) build your own sump or purchase one? BTW, this is the video I have been referencing to build my sump.

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

Think I will just stick with my canister for a while longer. A bit more work and cost than I expected to do a sump. I'll start building parts here and there and set it up in 6 months or so. My main concern is with the siphon of the overflow box. I hear a lot about loosing suction and overflowing...

How big of a lift pump do I need? Will a Ehiem model 1048 ( about 160 GPH) be big enough?

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

Only reason I would drill the sump is I don't know any better at this point. I have just been searching on the web to get designs and idea and some drill and some just come in from the top. Also you say "glass" dividers. I see lexan used often as well. Any reason to use glass over Lexan? Do you...

    LED lighting

Thanks, I just found them on YT but I also just found a very economical solution. I'm not that keen on DIY LED but till I found this the cost was way out of my range. I think the True Lumen Pro LED Striplights is the answer unless you want DIY and I don't if I can avoid it at a reasonable cost...

My first Sump ...many questions ...hear are a few :-)

I have a 20G long tank I am going to use for my sump (assuming I can drill it). Is that going to be big enough for my 80g tank? If not what is recommended? Also I am looking at a Tom Aquatics Pro Series Surface Skimmer Overflow Box for my main tank, it's not drilled. I can't seem to find what...

    LED lighting

Has anyone seen any DIY information on making your own LED lighting for ones reef tank. There is a guy on You Tube that does great DIY videos and started one on a LED light but doesn't have the time right now to do the rest of it.
