    Miracle Mud or DSB

I will be setting up a 10 gal refugium on my 33 soon and am trying to decide what to use for the substrate.

    Emerald Crab = Serial Killer?

In an effort to increase my cleanup crew I added a few snails and an emerald crab. Now about 2 weeks later I have one snail and one scarlet hermit left. 6 turbos and 4 blue leg hermits have vanished from their shells along with any calurpa in the tank (hair algae is still untouched). Has anyone...

    FW Dipping

It is time to get rid of those pesky flatworms that have been the bain of my existance for the past several months. The plan is to FW dip the LR and let them re-cycle in a 10 gal off to the side. I still have a filter with bio media and dead rocks for the fish, so the main tank should be fine...

    Micro Bubbles

My skimmer has been sending tiny bubles into my tank. I think that I have found the source and will be able to eliminate them soon. In the meantime, will these cause problems? Should I kill the skimmer until I can eradicate the problem? The tank is a 25g FOWLR.

    Venturi valves

I am building a skimmer and am in need of a venturi valve. Is this something that I can build myself or does Home Depot stock something? I have been experimenting with injecting air into the pump, but the bubles are too big.

    six lined wrasee compatability?

I have a six-line, they are great little fish in my opinion. But as with everything there are trade offs. As stated he decimated my pod population, and there was definatly an adjustment period. When first put into the tank he got into it with the clown and the cleaner shrimp, mostly the shrimp...

Thanks for the tips. I will spend a bit extra on the sealant.

    Glue and Sealant

I am currently building a skimmer using PVC pipe. I am almost ready to start glueing it together and am wondering if there is a problem with any glues or silicone sealants that are toxic to the fish. Also, does anyone have a pump recomendation for my skimmer. It is a venturi style (24"x3") on a...

    Hair Algae

I do not have a phosphate test kit so you are right, I am just guessing on that one. I had assumed that if there was something causing a phospate problem that it would also show up as nitrates, that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't have anything that requires light, so reducing the time will...

    Hair Algae

Recently hair algae has become a problem in my tank and seems to be spreading. The bulbs are less than 6 months old and are on for about 10 hours per day. Water changes and top ups are done with distilled water. Nitrates are at about 5 ppm (no refugium or sump). I have been quarreling with a red...

    Green bugs

Based on my experiances with a six-line I would say no. For a while I had a dark mirror behind the tank, at the time I just had a Oscallaris clown and the six-line. The clown didn't seem to mind it but the six-line freaked out at the sight of his reflection. I would assume that putting two...

    Green bugs

From what I have heard they can cause problems with some corals and clams in larger numbers. In my tank they seem to have wiped out all other life in the substrate. They are also terribly unsightly.

    Green bugs

I am sorry to hear about your flatworm problem. I have them in my tank as well. Almost nothing eats them, you can try to luck out with a mandarine or a six-line. One will eat them another won't, my six-line won't. It looks like they are still small in number in your tank, I would try to...

    I'm being invaded!

Thanks for all of the help with this problem. I have one last question about these flatworms: Are they harmfull or just unsightly? If I don't completly eradicate them now will I end up with a major problem in the future?

    I'm being invaded!

In my reading today I came across a discussion on a Black Rail shrimp. They apparently eat flatworms, but are difficult to get. Has anyone else heard of these or have any information on them?

    I'm being invaded!

Tang_man_Montreal, That is some depressing news. I already have a six-line wrasse, I have seen him pick at the flat worms once in a while, but not enough to controll the population boom. If you do find anything that works, let me know. Good Luck.

    I'm being invaded!

Thanks for helping me identify these things. Based on the pictures they are definatly Red Flat Worms(Planaria). Now at least I can do some research on them. Has anyone else had any luck getting rid of them?

    I'm being invaded!

The bottom of my tank and some of my live rock is being taken over by these little brown things. They are flat and 1/16" long and wide, Mr. Salty said that they were most likely some kind of bristle worm and are harmless. But the problem is that there are so many of them now that the entire...

Brown things taking the bottom of my tank

The biggest problem with these guys is that they are getting numerous enough that they cover the bottom of the tank and one piece of LR. It looks terrible. I really would like to get rid of them if possible. I have other bristle worms that are more worm like (long and skinny), these ones I...
