Anyone know HOW the DWA gets their LARGE corals....or how any large Aquarium Facility gets theirs? Of course, they can't be found in your LFS, so someone must be getting them somewhere? Do these large facilities...maybe like the Shed Aquarium in Chicago... have 'special sources' that they get...

I am trying to buy the test kits that I need to monitor the water in my coral, reef tank....150 gallons with several fish (tangs). BUT was concerned on which tests are probably the most important? For example......Obviously, I would think that a Calcium test would be a little more important...

PERFECT Parameters for a Reef Tank.

I am trying to determine what are the 'best' parameters for a reef tank. I see several numbers always floating around and would hate to spend an hour trying to find ALL these, but does anyone have any idea on where your numbers should be on a ree system? From PH (I guess around 8.3) to KH...

    Amazing creature AT NIGHT!

I see glowing eyes in my tank late at night when I shine a flash light in a coral tank. It appears to be the shrimp crawling around. I also saw something that looked like it came out of the movie "The Blob"....I saw something black, about an 1" in diameter, slivering around on the sand and...

Kalkwasser ...How many are out there?

I've just started using Kalkwasser in a 'drip' solution to my large 150 gallon tank and wondered how long it takes until you see results. I am careful with this stuff and the corals are doing great, BUT Do you really see an improvement on 'colors' of the rocks...pink..blue...etc.? Has anyone...

    Klein's Butterfly fish...anyone out there?

I have heard that a Klein's Butterfly (Black Lip Butterfly) is a good fish for a reef tank. Have anyone had success with this fish? I have also heard that it is pretty good keeping your tank 'clean.' Just curious. There aren't a lot of people out there that carry this Butterfly. I have a...

    Sea Apples...What do you think?

I saw a beautiful Sea Apple at the LFS today and ALMOST go it. I have a lot of coral in my tank and to be honest, I don't have much room for this 'thing' to roam around. Even though the tank is 150 gallon, there isn't much space. All the live rock has coral on it and was afraid that this 'Sea...

    Copperband Butterfly...IN A REEF TANK??

I've been to 2 LFS and both have had a Copperband Butterfly in their coral/reef tanks. Are they taking a chance doing this? I thought Copperbands have a tendency to 'pick' at the corals. Does anyone have a Copperband in THEIR tank? And can you tell me how its acting? Are they hardy fish, or...

    OH, you smelly Clam !!!

I have removed a dead clam (large) from my 150 gallon reef tank and thought I WAS GOING TO PASS OUT when I got it out of the tank. I think my house smelled for 2-3 hours after that. DAMN! I didn't think the 'stinch' would be that bad. ALL the corals are doing great but I'm sure they...

    Metal Halides....HERE WE COME !!

I have a large (tall) 150 gallon coral reef tank and am presently using compacts for lights (Corallites). However, I now have a $800 metal halide system to use. With 2-250 watt bulbs. I have been told to 'introduce' these cautiously and perhaps leave the Halides on for perhaps an hour a day...

Clams. Dead or Alive! Please stand up!

I have a couple of clams and am a little unsure if they're still alive or not. I see a couple that definately 'open and close' to a certain degree, but see another that looks like he 'sank' down into the shell. I 'think' he's dead, but not sure. Also does not show any response when I touch...

    Tooth Coral .... What's this ??

I have a huge, beautiful, piece of tooth coral in my tank. It is striving and loves the light and constant water flow. But it is ATTACKING OTHER CORALS? IF I put a piece of coral (doesn't matter what type) close to it (within a 1/2") or touching it, I find a white substance excreted from the...

    Water Change Addiction ???

Sounds kind of silly, but I have a tendency to change 10-13 gallons of water in my 150 gallon coral reef tank weekly. It doesn't bother me to do this, and the corals look great....but am wondering IF I changed 10-13 gallons every 3-5 days, WOULD THIS BE BETTER? Can you change the water TOO...
