What am I missing? - algea issue

rest assure, Your corals have more than enough to eat. Maybe a little too much since you have an algae problem. Phyto is fueling the algea growth. By stopping phyto, watch your feeding, and around 3-4 water changes a week with properly mixed saltwater, I'll bet anything that you won't have...

What am I missing? - algea issue

The LFS said it could be that I dont have enough coral in the tank to compensate for the fish. He recommended adding more corals to help with the issue :hilarious that is hilarious. How often and how much are you feeding. did a 15% water change last week and no improvement try doing this...

Growth progression of one of my favorite sps

Wow, it looks like most of the growth has happened in the last 6 months. very nice Acro. congrats on TOTM

Well, They Went and Did It...

squidd, IMO there is so much more to focus on than mixing corals. you will be fine, and congrats by the way. It sounds like your LFS come around for the best. I have a Euro Reef Skimmer and run carbon once a month for a day or two...Would it help if I ran it more often or even 24/7 with weekly...

    Euro-reef and Phosban reactor.

KPK, I have been running rowaphos for about 6 months now. I have had no RTN. I would not start out with the reactor. I would use the mesh bag that rowa includes for the first month. Then I would hook up the reactor and slowly aclimate your tank to the desired amount. Jason

    even better!! congrats:cheer:

    New Lighting

Go with T5 instead. They blow away any other fluorescent lights and in the long run are less expensive to oporate I agree. This is the way to go.

    Zooxanthellae ran away from Home

feeding is the best thing to do. if it's easy to lower it on the sand bed that would help. Have you added new bulbs? added a whole lot of carbon or some type of media? I hope it recovers.

    Feeding SPS Corals

I feed cyclopeez 1 time a week. It's pretty fun to wantch the polyps capture that stuff. it comes in a bar of orange "stuff" dip the bar in a little cup of water, swirll it around, Magic, did you know that when you refreeze the wet portion of the cyclopees that the artemia explode and loose...

which is more of a neccesity for a sps frag tank?

I just think with a 20gal tank with frags, a calcium reactor is overkill, unless of course you have the money just burning a whole in your pocket, then by all means spend away sometimes i pray for that problem. :D

which is more of a neccesity for a sps frag tank?

My goal is to keep my levels as close to sea water as possible, I don't want to run my alk and Ca levels up really high. I do the same thing Birdy. I think its the best choice in the long run. My levels are almost identical to yours.

which is more of a neccesity for a sps frag tank?

birdy, do you have any SPS besides the Porites? just can't see why you would need a calcium reactor on a tank as small as a 20gal I agree, but it sure does make things easy. with a frag grow out tank, i highly doubt that kalk alone will keep up with growth in the long run. before the reactor I...

which is more of a neccesity for a sps frag tank?

for a little 20 gallon, get a knop-c or a my reef creations nano reactor. if i did a Ca reactor i wouldnt need to drip kalk right? most people will tell you to keep dripping kalk. I don't anymore, and oddly enough my reactor had to be tuned down when I stopped. go figure. :D

which is more of a neccesity for a sps frag tank?

calcium reactor sure does make things easy. that would be my choice.

    Low PH Problems...

if you get the saturated kalk water too close to the saturated low ph reactor water, i think you would just get precipitation in your sump. effluent PH can't be raised too quick or you will just defeat its purpose. Have you cross refferenced your reading with another probe? even freshly...

    Effluent dKH

reefnut the alk of your effluent seems a little low, but if it is keeping up with your demand then that is fine. Mine is a little over double, but is sound like you are just running more water through the reactor to keep up with your demand instead of raising the bubble count. I don't see why...

    pH questions once again...?

could be a few reasons. (none of the ones you mentioned.) Kalk reactor is sending out a higher concentration. alkalinity is raised. did your alkalinity supplement change? new skimmer? #2 would lower PH and so would number 3(very slightly)
