well my tank is always at 86. it never goes up or down. my fan is ways on and its also kept in my room. and my tank is great.
i was thinking about getting a 150w mh but i didnt since it will cost me more money. and with the money i could get more frags
so yea im just here happy with the stock lighting.
but i most say your tank does look better with the mh. and to keep it at that temp

mine thats a 29g and with stock lights my temp is at 86
but im good.
and i hope my coraline starts to grow soon. i just love it
86 degrees? Damn thats hot lol. My tank ran 82-84 with that darn hood over it, that thing pretty much cooks the water.

Umm do you use a digital thermometer or a normal one? If its digital, I would guess it could be reading wrong because Ive never seen a tank that hot do well. You could try adding corals, but if they begin melting, I would try to do something about the heat. Maybe cut some holes in the top or buy the ever-expensive chiller.

i got the normal one. and its not hot at all. i think my thermometer is bad or old. idk. but when i stick my hand in there the water seems cold like by its 78-80. i find that kinda wierd. ima buy a new normal one to see if its that. but my tank has been runing for like a month i think and my zoas are spreading and everything is getting big!

Definitely sounds like a thermometer problem. 86 you shouldnt be able to sustain much life at all, considering most corals are collected pretty far down, and its kinda cold down there

well i look at the temp and now it says 84. but i dont get the water feels so cold!!!!!!!!!!
Im not sure
. Water has a high heat capacity so it might be absorbing most of it, yet it should still rise in temp if that were the case. Post that in the Reef Discuss. section cuz Im not too sure

I know it can get really hot down here. If ya can leave the fan on then fine, but all day seems like a while. Just try to keep it down however you can, maybe keeping topoff water cold or whatever

Experiment with it and see. Worst case senario, the temp doesnt go down and it keeps on running fine like it has been. Thanks nissan!!!!
