If your tank is 22"x18"x72" And the Tangs were approximately 4" long when you got them,You could "conceivably" put 4,752 'Tangs" in your 120...
But they would be quite uncomfortable...if you cut that number in half they would still be uncomfortable.
Same thing if you cut that number in half again...and again...and again...until you got down to TWO Tangs in a 120...
Then they would be comfortable...However you could add "other' fish in the tank with them...
I have TWO Tangs in my 125 and they pretty much use up ALL the space not filled with Rock for swimming...And they are pretty happy.:)

I'm sure you could put hundreds of tangs in a 120 gallon. But, as Squidd stated, many would be extremely stressed due to the lack of space. I would personally aim for 2 tangs in a 120 gallon tank, depending upon the demensions and species of tang.

Call me conservative (I know I am) but I wouldn't even consider having more than one Tang in my 155 bowfront. And only a smaller one at that (Yellow).
But then, I'm in it for the long haul. I will be disappointed if my Tang doesn't live to be 30 or 40. I wouldn't expect it to live more than 10 or 15 years If I had two in there.
