sharkbait9 and i will both agree that with API, you have to test twice in a row, the colors barely match the card..i found salifurt to be alot easier to use. i pretty sure i spelt that wrong.
the other night i tested my water with the API and the test read ammonia at 1 ppm, nitrites were purple, trates were over 80. I texted sharkbait and he started laughing and said i know you are using API. I retested with salifurt everything was normal. API sucks. I then retested with API, API test was normal.

i havnt really had to much of a problem with my test. before i normally buy anthing i tend to go to my LFS and have them test my water. everytime it is the same as what i was getting. so im to to worried. im still at the begining of my cycle as it is, so i know i have some time. all my other test are starting to run low so i will invest in a nicer kit this time. thanks for the heads up though. i think its more of a hit or miss with these kits
what will spike next in my tank trates or rites?

I find it odd that your retest of the API would finally show the true results. Make sure you shake your solutions before dropping. Especially your nitrates. I had no problem with my API tests, they matched my LFS results and was recommended API by many people on this forum. The colors are not hard to match with proper lighting, with the exception of nitrates of 10 and 20ppm being the same color.
Anyways, 1990, keep an eye on your nitrites and nitrates next. I would keep testing ammonia too, just in case. good luck dude.

he might be, but nitrites are just as bad. hopefully he's a hardy snail.

ok here are yesterdays readings:
Ph- 8.0
NH3- 0
No2- 0
No3- 0
Temp- 79*
so when should i be getting my next spike?
it has been 2 days of 0's across the board. i have been ghost feeding every day scents i got my tank. so i would assume that something would be spiking by now. i have found some hitchhiker snails in the both the 10g and the 20g so idk if this makes a difference.
i am just wondering cuz last time i did this after i got readings like this i was told i start to slowly stock the tank. but that was after 3 days after all 0's

i had planed on waiting until the 29th, just because. i even wrote it on my tank with a china marker so i dont move to quickly. i made the mistake of not doing the same on my GF's so now she thinks she can just add them as she finds them. i guess i will try her tank on Friday.

LOL i know im gonna run into that with my gf, but, luckily she sits and watches me research all day long and has come to the realization that she needs to take my advice on the tank LOL

well, i would wait it out. Hopefully you get some reading on your nitrates soon because thats what you want the bacteria to ultimately create. Keep an eye out for brown algae growth on the rocks and sand, when you see that, its usually a good indication you are nearing your cycle.
Your patience will pay off!

well right now she has a 6" goldfish i bought her 4 years ago for $0.12 for a nice little gift and this thing wont die. its a freak of nature. she doesnt want that thing anymore and wants nemos(what she calls them) and just cannot wait. as far as the brown stuff goes i dont have any lgiht on them so would i still get the brown junk? i plan on getting some cheapo's i think... well atleast for my tank, but i dont think i will have them til the weekend. would that stop the brown algee stuff from growing? i did have some green stuff 2 days ago but the freek of nature snail ate it.
