2 dead

i wake up and see my large yellow tang and my foxface dead on the bottom of my tank, stiff as a board and not breathing(obviously if dead) but my lionfish and eel are still alive and swiming like nothing happened
last night around midnight i heard a splash and though nothing of it and now im wondering if the foxface stung the tang who is kinda clumsy and the tang attacked the foxface and they both died, or if my lionfish went on a killing spree and killed every1
i didnt see any puncture wounds, but i didnt look very close yet, is this a possibility? i was battling ich but it was getting much better and the fish were swiming around just fine yesterday, so i doubt ich could have hit them that hard, that fast to kill them, but maybe, any input would be appreciated
it sucks because thats 70bucks worth of fish just randomly dead, but after learning the tang has the bone on its tail for a knife kind of, im wondering if that was the splash i heard

Sorry to hear that. IF you don't see any evidence of attacks, I would say it is more likely water issues. An established Lion and Eel are all but bulletproof, certainly far far far more hardy than the 2 fish that died. I would check ph, nitrates, salinity, and run carbon.

The splash does seem to indicate that there could be a little more to the story. Were there any marks on either of the two dead fish?

the foxface looks like he has a few small cuts, but could be scratches from the live rock and scratching the ich, amonia is 0, ph is a little low, 7.9, cant test nitrates, but nitrites are .3, salinity is 1.022, had to take carbon out while running ich medicine, but i dont think thats how they died, id put my money on a fight, the tang was very big and clumsy and the foxface would always put out its spikes when the tang swam by, so im guessing the tang bumped into the fox, got stung, then got pissed and swiped him and both died
but it could be the water, i know eels and lionfish are like cockroaches, can survive almost anything
they are dead and nothing can be done now, just curious what could have happened, sucks to loose 70bucks worth of fish all at once and the fish i ordered from here came dead, so 4 fish in 24 hours, really sucks

What Ick medication were you running? Ph is definately low, probably not the cause of death, but anytime my ph has ever dipped under 8, Tangs and Angels let you know in a hurry. Wondering why you have Nitrite present?

not sure about the nitrite, ive never gotten a 0 reading, so might just be the test brand(tetra) its ich attack by kordon, was working fine, saw less and less specs and much less flashing if any, but my sailfin tang, maroon clown, and 2 damsels in my other tank getting the same medicine are alive and well
anyone have any idea on the exhange policy here? no1 is answering phones or replying to emails even during office hours, off topic i know, but i cant get an answer anywhere

You could post a thread here. They have a place where you can ask SWF questions.

I dont think a Lion will attack a fish unless they were small enough to be food. They arent really agressive per se.

+1... Established Lions and Eels are really tough. Do a thorough water paramater check... Otherwise, check your wiring... Maybe a short discharge killed the two fish but never killed the eel or lion... (Long shot but worth a look...)
