Just bought a 5.5 gallon today from the LFS to take to my office tomorrow. 8lbs of live marshal rock i have 5lbs of live sand. Penguin 100 bio-wheel, 25 watt heater, and just ordered the 70watt halide clip on JBJ makes for its nano cubes.
I was also looking at adding a small powerhead like the
Rio Powerhead Mini 90 or the Rio Powerhead Mini 50, what should i get and how many.
There is no sand in it because im gonna bottle the water up tomorrow morning and reset it up at work tomorrow. I didn't want to try and mix salt/water at work.
I would also like ideas on a inhabitance list if you please
fish/inverts/corals.

Your tank hanging over the edge of that table is making me nervous!! Push it completely onto the table before somebody knocks it off!!! :scared:
Other than that, the tank looks good--I like the rock you've got in it!

its hanging off because the heater cord is so short it wouldn't reach any other way lol...

Get a clown goby and a cleaner shrimp, or a psitol shrimp and shrimpgoby..... that'd be cool.

Buy a cheap extension cord please. Most heaters IMO have way to freaking short a cord on them.

ok i got this thing setup here at my work, tested water a few mins ago and i had
amm. 25
nitrate 0
nitrite 0
so its looking like that shrimp i tossed in there is doing its work.
Still would like some ideas on corals/fish list.
I was thinking about a clown goby and a cleaner shrimp
maybe a couple of boxing crabs but im still up in the air on all of it.
any suggestions would be great.

this is a tank for my desk at work so it cant be large. Yes you can put alot of things in a tank this size just not many fish, maybe 1 very small fish. And as many corals as i can pack in here.

yeah, I'm interested in smaller ones too, i was going to go possibly all invert, cuz i really want a coral banded shrimp, but he'd bother my fish in my display tank.... but if you want fish get a rusty clown goby and a cleaner shrimp, purple mushrooms.... I'd frag stuff off your otehr tank for the new one. and yea, boxing crabs are awesome, i'm lookin to pick one up next week hopefully.

Sometimes people forget that not everyone has the luxury of having room for a 240 gallon tank. Other times people will tell you that a tank this small can't be done; I actually had a "marine biologist" tell me in a fish store that 6 gallons was way too hard to keep. Contrary to the man working at the fish store, I mean "marine biologist's" opinion, it is doing just fine. The best thing for a tank this small is frequent, small volume water changes. A cup of water taken out and replaced every couple days is not a big deal, and it can be the best thing to lower nitrates and clean up the water! Good Luck! It looks great so far!

Ok got my halide on 70w 14k jbj clip on. Skimmer installed , and a small powerhead
Current water test
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Salt 1.025
Ph 8.4
Temp 80

I use that JD bottle to hold my ro/di water from home for topoffs.

HA! So move the table.
The tank will handle 1 fish and a couple inverts. Thats about it. You can have alot of corals if the water is perfect and the lighting is right.
