would a metal reptile top work? If you had stuff on the back you could cut out the section and leave the framing so it would stay strong.
Metal and saltwater don't mix so well. The metal will drip down into the tank.

i'd check for stray voltage
I have one of those grounding probes, so doesn't that eliminate the possibility of stray voltage?
JPA or Spanko...where do you get that stuff? (not the frame) BUT the pond netting has holes just as big (or small) as the egg crate.

Just looked up pond netting and the opening is 3/8" not too much difference. It is also a polypropelene (nylon) wouldn't the extreme heat from MH lights melt it....I had a piece of screen that i was using during my light acclimation start to melt.

I have and use 1/4" netting just like above. Many others use it localy and never have jumpers anymore. It does not melt or even get hot. I have 3 -250w hqi over it.

Posted above I use 1/4". Big difference from the egg crate. Everybody I know that uses egg crate still lose wrasses to jumping, but not from the 1/4" mesh.

Not trying to be rude but have you read all the post. It is a CLEAR mesh. Looks like thick fishing line. Does not effect the light at all.

IDK if it would or not, but it would probably deflect too much light....
Reifer...I just looked up the hawkfish....beautiful fish, sorry for your loss...The dwarf flame angel is a nice fish, and angels don't jump...It will also be appropriate for your size tank

Also all fish can jump. Especially if spooked.

Sorry guess I missed that...In the one pic it doesn't look clear, and one site I found it on said "black"

THD also sells fiberglass screen material, so no metal to worry with. I made a 10" wood canopy for my 125g. I have a hinged lid for night with just the moonglow lights on, I can close the top. I use a fiberglass screen on top so during the day, when I have the top open, no bugs get in. The screen is stapled on the backside so I can feed/clean/change water. The whole thing cost $40 and looks alot better than the old glass top.
