Is this a new tank because there is typically a bloom of them, then some die out due to lack of food, if this is an established tank you are overfeeding because they will only reproduce based on food, you can buy fish that eat them. Wrasses are good for this but most fish will eat them.

this tank is a bout 3 months old, i got a yellow tang, clown fish, snails ,shrimp and hermit crabs. what fish will eat these things? so over feeding these things will make them multiply.

You did not mention the size of your tank..or lbs of LR...but....most people on these boards would LOVE to have that problem....because if you have LOTS of pods, then you can support a Mandrin!

can you say tang police??? weeoooweeeooo
that is way to small for a yellow tang... it will not have enough room to grow, and fully grown they are somewhere around 8-10 inches... they need at least 6 feet(length) of swimming room

As soon as I saw he had a tang, I knew someone would mention this!

Your pods will conform to their surroundings, you really shouldnt muck with them and a Mandarin is out of the question with your size tank and the red seas dont have a refugium.

Really, no Mandarins? My catalog here says mimimum tank size is 30 gal. I used to have one until my tank crashed. Very pretty.

Thats probably the same catalog that says you can keep tangs in a 55g, Mandarins are very finicky eaters whose diet consists of only pods, there have been occasions were some posters here have gotten them to eat some brine or mysis shrimp, They need large tanks and like 100lbs of live rock and a refugium to constantly replace the pods, The majority of these fish die a slow starvatin death. a 34g redsea will not sustain this fish in the long term.

I've also read min size is 30 gal. I have an adopted/rescued yellow tang in my 40 gal. I won't keep her forever, but right now she seems very happy.
Most people wouldn't suggest having a large dog in a small yard or even an apartment, but many people do and the dogs are just fine.
You and I should probably hide now, because this is a really hot topic.

After I read about the mandarins & blennies and them only eating pods, I called all the LFS here and not one of them has pods - either live or frozen - but they all have mandarins and blennies. They said their fish were raised on mysis shrimp (or brine, I can't recall) and will eat them. I've had my blenny for about 2 months and have never had pods, that I know of.

Many people are now training them to eat frozen foods as it is becoming popular . Also I have a Yellow Tang in my 55 and been healthy for the past 4 years .

Mia - before you get so condescending you should know what you're talking about by reading my other posts. I'm not arguing against feeding them pods, nor do I WANT to feed my blenny anything other than what he's meant to eat. I've been researching and looking for pods, fresh or frozen, even contempleting setting up a "pod-farm". My 2 points were (1) when I bought him (and checked into the mandarin) no one told me they needed anything other than the mysis shrimp they told me to get, and (2) he's still alive, so he must be eating.
While there is a wealth of info here, the arrogance is just too much for me.

Arrogance? Condescending? I know your not talking about me! What have I done thats arrogant? Telling you that the majority of the fish will not do well in the home aquarium unless you get them aclimated to eat other things than pods? What else is arrogant? Telling you to do what you want because its a free country? It is isnt it? People here are just meant to pass on information to the best of their knowledge, then what? You soak in the info, make an assessment and do what you want to do? Ultimately the decision is yours!
