I get a kick out of the people trying to blame the school... "Why didn't you close classes after the first shooting?" What were your security measures? How are you gonna beef them up?
As if this kinda behavior is to be EXPECTED!
I hear people blame the school, the cops, society, but not the friggin' insane jerk wad that pulled the trigger.
Not here, I'm talking about on the news and stuff...
It's always somebody elses fault, we NEED to keep blaming to feel better.
THAT'S what scare ME the most about our society...

Sadly there was no one there prepared to defend against this type of incident. Even the security at this campus is not armed.
Gun control advocates in this country have convinced a large segment of the population to willing disarm and leave themselves defenceless. This is symptomatic of a population that values security over freedom.
When you value security over freedom you will soon find that you have neither. This was demonstrated by yesterdays events.
Anyone with even basic military knowledge knows that in the event of ambush you have to be prepared to defend yourself and advance into the ambush. Any other action will result in more casulties. Security and even armed police did just the opposite and now have a massacre on there hands.

and we wonder why people do this...because on every news station and talk show its this is the US worst shooting etcetc...the shooter gets their name down in the record books as causing this, they get "glorified" on every channel at some point...we let it take over our lives, and not in a good way...we don't focus on those lives lost...its on who dropped the ball and what happened and what should have been done...yea its important to make sure that something didnt go wrong for the next time, but these are things that are not easy to be prepared for all the time..but can't we figure that out a little later after we let people adjust to what just happened to their best friends, their children, their family.........just my opinion.

I agree Bronco. It's unfortunate that the true tragedy gets lost in the media frenzy who's primary motives are news ratings and exploitations. Anti-gun people will exploit this for their own cause. Meanwhile there are parents who will never see their children again, girls whose boyfriends have been ripped away, wives without husbands and countless tramatized students who now have to cope with the loss of friends.

feel terrible for everyone who lost someone in this event.
how long until we start faulting music, video games, childhood, and all that jazz again. it gets a little old because everytime some idiot does this the same old things get blamed except for the moron himself.

This is a very tragic event. There is no way to prepare for such an incident because nothing has ever happened to this magnitude. However, in my opinion to what should have been done is that after the 1st shooting the school should have been locked down. There should have been a msg sent to the RA's at the dorm, and armed police should have went to all the dorms to inform them not to leave while an armed/dangerous person was loose on campus. Next their should have been a road block or officers in parking lots advising students that classes were to be canceled for all the comuters. With these measures in place it may not have saved all the lives of the students there, but I bet its very likely it would have prevented some death.
The main issue here and the thing to blame is MENTAL HEALTH. There needs to be a way or a class to discuss how to deal with relationships, emotions, and mental health issues that give kids knowledge and tools on how to deal with these issues before they blow up and someone is killed!!!

Several red flags should have gone up when the professor of English noticed the student showing serious issues and told him he needed counseling. He never went. Now 33 are dead, 17 are injured and the Nation mourns.
Our Lord, please comfort those affected by these trageties. Please help our people heal and recover but not forget those that were injured or taken from us. In your saving Son's name. Amen

horrible event, my heart and prayers go out to all of those were killed or injured. but unfortunately there are also people in this world who get amusement out of stunts like this and think its hilarious to scare people. im sure there have been threats at many other campuses and high schools across the nation. today my school unwrapped that someone was planning a shooting for friday. i think it is unfair that we live in a world where the one place where we are supposed to feel the safest, we are in danger. as much as i feel sad for the loss of so many young lives, im also sad that a person was able to slip through the cracks, not given help, and would do something like this.

It's so tempting to just dive into this topic and throw out my opinions and thoughts, but I'd likely end up hated and banned.
So I'll make a nice and mild observation.
I completely disagree with his strategy and condemn his actions, but I understand the fella. I know what it's like to live your life nothing more than a shadow. To be able to go through your entire day without being spoken to or speaking to anyone as if it were normal. To want to have friends and associates so badly you force yourself into social situations with the hopes someone will talk to you. Countless hours a day are spent dreaming up dialogue with some imagined person you'll never meet. It's easier that way because real people will judge and criticize and reject you and make fun of you if you don't conform to their standards. Do any of you remember how heartlessly cruel and malicious kids could be? Don't any of you remember the senselessly destructive, mean kids at school that actually looked forward to their class they could pick on a certain kid?
I don't know all the details but I bet he had made a few attempts at social interaction, and I bet that completely blew up in his face. That's probably where those stalking charges came from. I understand how the dude could be so irate and frustrated, feel so hopeless and meaningless that he wanted his life to end. It seriously sucks he didn't do just that, instead of spreading his misery and destroying as many families as he could.
But he got his message across, thanks to the media. Had he just killed himself in his dorm, the only person who would've suffered (besides the family) would've been the person who found him. But by taking a detour completely sideways, everybody now knows his story. I guess that could be considered a good thing.

The last part, about how everybody now knows what led him down this path.
People say "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", so hopefully, now we'll have some prevention. On second thought, we've had prevention.

I have no sympathy for the idiot. His "end result" actions may have been why he had no friends. He was a lunatic. I don't care about him being shunned, lots of people are shunned. I don't care for any of his sorry excuses, nothing would suffice, IMO.
If he didn't commit suicide, I'd wish he got the death penalty. If he couldn't handle the pressure, he shoulda quit and worked at a minimum wage job.
He was a human being and I give respect to that, but he was an estranged lunatic who didn't know how to handle himself.
Nope, no sympathy here...

I feel for the victims and their families, I couldn't imagine anything worse as a parent then to see one of your children brutally gunned down. At the same time I pity the killer, the guy was a mess and it's a shame he didn't have anyone in his life who could have helped him out. You would think with all the red flags going up around this guy someone would have reached out to him and try to help him...even that may not have prevented this.
It'd be nice to see harsher restrictions for any gun you can conceal...whether it's longer waiting periods or more stringent background checks. Lets face it, if this guy didn't have a hand gun this never would have happened. We are blessed to have many freedoms in our country and situations such as this are a consequence and lets face it, as long as someone with a backgroung like this guy can obtain concealed weapons it'll happen again.

I worked at the hospital here for a while and I know one thing. All you had to do was tell somebody, anybody that you wanna hurt yourself and/or others, and with no questions, they'd PAY for you to get a ride to the "behavioral health center". A center that is funded, mostly by the Gov't. YOUR taxes, so not only did he have a place to seek help, YOU help pay to keep that place up, running, and available.
I don't own a gun, but I do not blame the gun. Heck, I wish somebody else on the campus had one at that particular time!
I don't think he wanted help... There are plenty of places to get help...I think he wanted to make a statement. This, makes him the idiot that he is, IMO...
OK, I'm done.
I feel so bad for the parents. Losing a kid is one thing, but losing a kid in college would be especially hard, IMO.
You instill all your values, all your beliefs, and while raising them, you hope the best but never really can tell what they will do with all that you taught them. When they go to college, you start to see where they are going. This is when you realize that maybe they can or will change the world. Maybe they will make a difference.
This is the pivotal point between child and adult. So many hopes, so many dreams in the making...
I can't quite wrap my brain around the magnitude of this sadness, and it was all due to one single individual.
