24/7 lighting necessary???

On a another thread it was mentioned that 24/7 lighting might not be necessary on a refugium to keep caulpera from going sexual. I have never researched this, I just followed the opinions of others. Now I am wondering if it is necessary. Has anyone read or done research on this?

Some people use the reverse lighting method. Refugium lights are on when main lights are off(and vice versa). This helps keep PH balanced as well.I have always used 24/7 successfully.

If you trim your Caulerpa often it will reduce the chance of it going sexual. 24/7 will improve growth rate slightly but it does not prevent it from going sexual, only reduce the chances.
