25 gallon newbie

Hi all
I was just recently given a 25 gallon tank with stand and my life long dream has always to have a saltwater tank. I know the tank is relatively small, but I don't want anything too big.

Is it possible to have a small reef with a few (2-3) clowns?

Welcome!!! :)

A reef with two Clownfish of the same species would be perfect for a 25 gallon. Three Clownfish will NOT work. I also rcommend that you not start off wth an Anemone no matter who talks you into it. The survival rate of Anemone kept by new saltwater hobbyists is somewhere around 3%. The Clownfish do not require an Anemone.

If it were me I would shy away from large soft corals and focus on the needs of either SPS or LPS corals. LPS are going to give you the best chance of success. A Zoanthid or Mushroom tank would also be a good choice and has a better variety of colors you can mix and match.

Also, go slow. Very slow. Be meticulus and methodical. Research EVERYTHING before you purchase or add anything.

Thank you so much. So the tank would be just fine for the two clowns and nothing else but the reef? Just want to make sure they won't be lonely I guess..lol

Not necessarily. Just ones that will be ok without other fish but with their own kind and won't grow too big to not fit in the tank

Percula or occ clowns are your best bet if you want a pair. These are also the two species most often bred w the designer traits. Snow flake, ice, black, ect. The more fish you add to a reef the more water quality needs to be watched. So you could add a clown goby or maybe a hectors goby. However your clowns will be your largest fish.

I agree with Jay Oscelaris or Percula. A lot of the others are to aggressive and can get bigger. Captive bred clowns are pretty common and I like to get captive bred fish when possible.
