Hello,
Today I was finally able to fill up my 26 gallon tank !
equipment..
penguin 200 filter (running carbon filter pads)
penguin powerhead
heater
t-5 lights
substrate
crushed coral / rocks ( I wanted to go with sand but my lfs didnt have any and i didnt wasnt going to pay for shipping )
fish and coral im planning on adding -
2 perkula clown fish
brain coral
cuc ( consisting of several kinds of snails and a few hermitt crabs)
toadstool
star polyps
some other random zoas and polyps
It currently dosent have any live rock but i am planning on getting some early next week..
I went to my lfs last night and she told me If i started my tank today it would be realy for clown fish in a week . I might be mistaken but i do not think that this correct ( I was thinking this as the was helping another coustomer, she droped a tang on the ground and chased it around for a minute then put it in the coustomes bag lol
as you can probably tell i only come to this one for equipment !)
Im not sure if it actually works or not but i am also adding Nutrafin cycle it says it immediatley esablishes a safe enviornment for fish but im not trusting it. (i figure it cant hurt. If anything just kind of help the process along ?)

Also on tanks I have had in the past I have always had a hard time arranging the rocks to make a good solid looking reef and knowing how much to get. Does anyone know any tips? I have also heard of a type of rock that is cheaper because it isnt "live" yet i cant remember what it was called though. I want to save as much money as possible when setting up my tank but I dont really know the pros and cons of buying it allready live or if it really makes that big of a difference eing live allready or not.
Thankyou

You know....a tank with just water has nothing to cycle....You really need to add your rock and sand now too

Ok thats what I was thinking. I dont have sand though I only have crushed coral for my substrate ( wich is allready in the tank). If I got just one medium sized chunk tommorrow of live rock would that help make a difference ? I think i might try to go 50/50 on live and "dead" rock. Also do you think my tank would be safe for clown fish in a week using that nurafin cycle ? Sorry i really do not remember anything about saltwater fish but I have just spent a good four hours reading my books that initially tought me lol .

AS T said...NO FISH YET
You can add one small piece of live rock to seed the rest of the dead rock..BUT I would not even think of adding anything live until you are done with that
