Can I get some of your guys' opinions about what fish/coral/inverts would work in a 29 gallon saltwater tank. Thanks :)

Theres a bunch of fish you could do. Clownfish, gobies, blennies, basslets, wrasses ect. It depends on what you like. I have two clowns, two firefish, and a tail spot blenny in my 29g. What coral you get depends on how aggressive they are, how strong your lights are, and if your fish or inverts are reef safe. I have peppermint shrimp in my tank because they are cheap, easy, and eat aiptaisia. But cleaner shrimp, or fire shrimp are cool to. (and theres more than that).

What mrdc means is that with coral, some like the dark (fish only lights) these corals won't need the fancy lights but they are not beginner corals either. It takes a very balanced tank and lots of research on your part keeps these alive and a dedication to water changes. They require lots of water flow and food, which pollutes the tank quickly ..The reason for the water changes. These have very bright color.
Some like it very, very bright...MH or of T5s most soft corals and anemones need allot of light..Lots of beginner corals to choose from.
Some corals that like the bright lights also require a very well kept stable tank, the beautiful SPS corals..Most of these are for the advanced hobbyist only.
I'm not sure but I think mushroom corals are alright under fish only lights and they are nearly indestructible and very pretty. A very good beginner coral.

Yeah most of your standard mushrooms can thrive under most any light. The only problem is when they like your tank too much and grow out of control!!

I thought GSP leaned towards liking higher light but if yours seem to be doing alright in the shade, I say frag a small piece and place it high in your 30. I will be doing the same in my 29 as soon as I finish making my new mesh cover to allow more like to get in and more heat to get out. I'm currently using a glass canopy that I want to quit using.

So the Frankenstien experiance didn't really do anything...Well I think we should declare GSP the best beginner coral ever..it survives anything.

A Peacock Mantis Shrimp only tank! So easy yet so awesome. Just get some live rock for him to hide in and feed him little critters.
Thats my vote atleast, a different option than the norm.
Go check out a video on youtube about them

Well now I feel like a freakin' idjit. I can keep my Rics, Pagoda cup, and Chalice alive, but the two corals I've never been able to keep longer than a couple months? Non-pulsing Xenia and GSP. Yup. I think I need a piece of your Frankencoral GSP; I've tried twice and never been able to keep GSP.

Don't feel bad ... I know a lot of people that struggle with xenia (me included) and gsp (so far so good).

Well I can not keep xenia either

I have tried it in the 225G...and it dies almost immediately....then I had a pice in the 54G, and it started spreading, and I was trying to get it to grown onto different rocks so I can try again in the other tanks....and one day they just started wilting, and then they all died

and I finally got a gsp frag from SWF :) and it is taking off (in the 225G)
I have some pink (PSP) in my 29G that is also taking off that I got from Nissan....

Xenia feeds on nitrates, since I have been battling nitrates to keep them down I can't keep xenia either. It really is sad, I don't have bad enough water for the nitrate hungry easy guys and my trates are to high for the nice pure water SPS...Can I blame the UPS forklift driving gorilla for all my woes?

Sure, why not. UPS Gorillas be shamed! ;-)
Well My nitrates are between 5 and 10 ppm, so maybe not "good" enough for the regular xenia? I honestly don't know. My pulsing Xenia is doing fine....not getting bigger, but not dying off. I just got a small frag of starburst polyps, so I'm curious to see how these do. I've had a small outbreak of hair algae and diatoms since I updated my lighting to a MH, but the light that came with it is poor, so I have a new bulb on order. Honestly the spectrum on this bulb looks too yellow. I have a feeling that may be part of what's driving the nuisance algae.
Back to the topic, if I was doing a 29g I'd probably go with a trio of barnacle blennies in a barnacle cluster, a watchman goby, and either a swissguard basslet or one of the flasher/fairy wrasse species as the main fish. No starfish of any stripe in this sized tank, unless you count micro stars.... and maybe pattern the tank after an actual coral stand that you see offshore, where there is one predominant coral and only a few "space filler" animals in the gaps.
