Hey all , Looking for some input for mod's on the 29 bio-cube. This is going to be a frag tank , no substrate. I will be taking water from my established 40gal and 24gal tanks to start this one . I will also prob throw a few pieces of LR in for Bio - filtration. My question is what do you guys do in the back chambers?? are the bio - balls REALLY all that bad?? tell me what works for you!!! thanks , and I will have pic's up next week , tank not running yet I have been a little under the weather . Thanks for all your help

Congrats on the 3rd tank nwydr, you must be a balla! lol Just a question but why not make this a nice display and turn your 40 gallon "frag"
tank into an actual frag only tank? Either way I know this will be awesome as you are an experienced fragger! What plans do you have as far as frags for this one? Any pics yet? Good luck and happy fragging!

Here are my back chambers. The only change is the bags with the Purigen and Chemipure now lay across the bottom grate in chamber two so that the water has to go through them to get to the return pump in chamber three. And the heater in in chamber one with the skimmer

thanks subie! Blazin asked the same question ,maybe you already know and are just being a wisw guy huh? well any way ,I dont want any LS in the frag tank , It would be wat too much work to empty out that tank! I would prob. mess up my bio load or something
Anyway this will be easy to just start with nothing but eggcrate and FRAG'S

Oh, sounds good I wasn't trying to be a wise guy, I honestly didn't know. I, like spanko, have made my 2nd chamber into a fuge. Now I only have a 14 but I currently have my purigen and chemi-pure elite and my thermometer probe in chamber 1. Removed the false floor from chamber 2, in there I have 2 lbs of lr rubble, a wad of chaeto and I have not modified my drip tray. In chamber 3 I have an upgraded return(mj900) and my heater. Hope this helps to give you some ideas.

I have heard of people putting in live rock to chamber two in the biocubes and down the road taking it out because of the accumulation of detritus from the rock raising their nitrates. That is why I only put the Chaetomorpa and chemical filters in there.

Yea I have a hob wet/dry type filter on my 40gl and I do notice a little nitrate thing going on in there! So maybe the bio - balls are not so bad huh? If I put only cheato in there then where would my bio filtration come from??? was that a really dumb question???

Well I dont see why you couldn't put them in chamber 1 and 3 for that matter as long as they don't block your return pump.

So I am gonna sound really stupid here but how much biofiltration do you need with a frag tank? You said you are gonna put some rock in the display, you have chaeto, you have a skimmer, you have Purigen and Chemipure. I don't know how much your really need with just frags. If your are not having fish, so no waste there no uneaten food well????????????????? maybe we need someone who keeps frag tanks do give us some more insight here.

Yep! we need a frag expert here!! I prob. wont do the skimmer b/c i do weekly water changes so I ahve not needed one on my other nano ,or the 40 actually. I read allot about them and from all I read they say the nano ones are not really any good and even the big ones that are good end up taking too much out of the water and then you have to replace all the essential elements and stuff
OK I think I am making this harder than it really is!!
I am thinking , some bio - balls in chamber 1 with the pump , cheato , purigen and chemipure in the middle chamber then the heater in chamber 3. A couple of nice pieces of LR under the egg crate shelf ,that I already built.
sound like a plan?? hey where do I get one of those cool little lights for the cheato?

Ask your LFS. Mine order it for me. The stock pump fits into chamber three and the output to the display is in chamber three. No need to change that. the heater can go in chamber two no problem.

After 3 days of searching the cheapest way to make a stand for the Bio this is what I cam up with....

OK... I found 16x18x31 single vanity's at Home Depot for only 10.00 each!! got 2 then a 24x36inch piece a plywood and some white paint I had at home. There you have my $31.00 Bio Cube stand with plenty of storage! Well Blazin what do you think? I know its still a cheapo stand but hey its better then the cinder blocks huh?
