I need to buy a magnify glass. I've def suspected it due to the crappy color. I just can't see them. I thought they only go on acros?

Polyp extention has been an issue but I've noticed something interesting the last two nights. First let me preface that I get very little to no extention during the day. I do get more but not much At night. Starting last night I unplugged my moonlight which is just a strip of LED blue lighting. Anyway, after about 30min after I turned off the ml I looked with a flash light and my pe was HUGE. Super long. I tried it again tonight and it was the same. It seems they really prefer pitch dark. Anyone ever see this? Why does it happen? I'm going to try tomorrow too.

My order has arrived :jy:
Salifert Potassium Test Kit
Red Sea Reef Colors B (Potassium) 500 ML
Red Sea Reef Colors D (Trace) 500 ML
The Salifert Potassium Test Kit is fast, fast, fast. Its range is from 470-250ppm
I tested out at 410ppm, tomorrow I will compare it to the Red Sea kit to see how close they are to each other.

Potassium...I didn't even know there was a test for that concerning SW. I learn something new everyday.
I like the Seachem kits because they have a regent that double checks and verifies the tests are accurate. I never liked the Red Sea kits because the color charts are different in each kit according to their printer I guess. I had two kits, I had reordered because one was getting low and the charts were different. That had me concerened because the test results are so close in color already and it was hard for me to tell exactly what the readings were.

Yeah, they have test kits for potassium. I've never used one - and I have no idea what the importance of it is. But, I would like to find out...

They say it's tied to the coloration red I believe. Iron and iodine are two others each focusing on a different color pigment. I don't like my red sea tests. They take 20 min each. Geo it looks like your potassium is good. Mine is around 360. I can't dose for it because one of the side effects is algae bloom which I'm already battling.
Hey. What about my PE? Anyone ever see that before

The Red Sea Pro Potassium test has been one of the best for a year or two so don't prejudge it. The only gripe is the bottle packaging is so flimsy that the lids fail and then don't close. Like the other Potassium Turbidity test kits it takes a long time to run.
Red Sea Pro Potassium Test Kit is a Turbidity test. Turbidity is a measure of the cloudiness of water- the cloudier the water, the greater the turbidity.
Salifert Potassium Test Kit is a Titration test. Titration method is a quantitative analysis where you count drops to a reaction end point.
API Nitrate Test Kit is a Colorimetric test. Colorimetric analysis is a quantitative chemical analysis by color using a colorimeter or in cheap test a color chart.

What about my PE? Anyone ever see that before I have but my experience is limited and I think how big the difference from day and night is dependent on specific type of coral and how happy and healthy it is.

Mine is around 360. I can't dose for it because one of the side effects is algae bloom which I'm already battling. Ya my potassium is ok for now and I am still waiting for a full recovery. In a week I will start the Colors D. I do have a QT that I can play with to confirm that the blooms are from the potassium. How much have you been dosing? As it is a bit hard to figure out a stating amount for the Red Sea additives.

I stopped after 3 doses because I started to see blooms. However, I'm not 100% sure the blooms are from the potassium. I have a few other changes that could be contributing. Ie. I changed out the sand bed and stopped carbon dosing.
I'm very tempted to start dosing again with much smaller doses. I miss being able to feed my fish and corals without having to worry about an algae bloom. What do you think? I really am seeing progress on a few of the corals but not all. But I'm still not able to get my trates down from 3 and phos from .04 to 0. Any suggestions?
One more thing, I've been reading a lot about lighting spectrum and feel with my current setup I'm not getting the full spectrum needed for corals.

I think you are right where you want to be.
The tough thing is how quick you can brown out a coral, but then it takes 3 months to recover the color back.
So how much per gal of the potassium did you use per day and I will cut that in half and dose my QT.

If I read the bottle right it says if the measured level is 350 ppm and you have sps frags (410ppm) then dose 34 ml. That's what I did 34 ml. I'm considering trying it but not too sure. I'm afraid if the tank blooms I will get back on the vodka. :rotfl:

It says Concentration: 1ml/100 liters (25 gal) = 1.75 ppm K
So in a 25 gal tank 34 ml of colors b will move you 59.5 ppm. That is how much you will need to add if you start at 350ppm in order to get to the target of 409.5 ppm. In the booklet it tells you the max daily increases of each additive and for potassium that is 10ppm. So you would then take the 34 ml and break it up in to six doses of 5.6ml (5.6 x 1.75=9.8ppm). So adding 5.6ml daily for six days and your potassium will go from 350ppm to about 410ppm.
