Just for the heck of it I tested all my parameters (most) on my tank tonight. I was really hoping to find the silver bullet of my HA problem. It still is beating me pretty bad.
Anyway
Tmp 79.0
Ph 7.91 (night)
Cal 430
Alk8.3
Mag 1350
Trate 1
Phos 0.03
My kessils are at 50% right now still feeding home made fish food once per day. Change out 10-15 gal EVERY week. Run carbon and phos.

This is a long shot but one theory that I have been thinking about since I've been working on my new tank is top skim removal. Hear me out. Now that my bio load is larger and my fish and inverts are getting larger I feel that the 3/4" hole the water goes down to the sump is not adequate enough for the load that I have. I get great current with the two mp10s so even though you don't see the "film" on the top of the water ( because the water is moving so quickly and it "rolls" back into the tank) there isn't enough gunk going into the sump to be cleaned and is recycled too often in the display tank. Thus having all the HA in the DT and ZERO HA in the sump. Most of my main filtration is in the sump and not in the DT besides live rock.
I've been reading a lot about how important it is to remove the top layer of proteins off the tank so that the skimmer can do its job. I'm not denying that I've made too many changes to understand what the source is but the tank is a full year now, it "should" be mature enough to handle the load. Is think my process and equipment is adequate enough to handle it , if it was able to process the water to the sump more efficiently. .

What equipment are you running......Don't remember what you have as for as overflow on the current tank as well......Does make sense some....

This pic shows my sad version of an overflow box. I don't have an overflow box. I have drain pipe that I believe the ID is 1/2".

I've started to remove my rocks in preparation to treat them with bleach and acid. I plan on killing all of my live rock with this treatment for my new build.

I need some help with my corals They are mostly on egg crate right now since I removed most of the lr. The problem is most of the coral has HA or bryopsi I'm not really sure if its bryopsi but I think it is. How can I get it off the corals? I've thought of peroxide, fire Anything else? I've removed it before only for it to come back
Anyway what would be the best thing to ensure that it doesn't carry Over into my new tank. I'm still in the process of building my 110 tank What would be the best process and time frame to ensure its gone for good.

Hmmm.....
You could try to clean them and get rid of it in your 30g before you transfer it.
Every try an algae elimination product before? Algaefix or something like that. There are a couple of people on here who have used products like that with a good amount of success in a reef tank.
Peroxide dips would probably not hurt that bad...
Manual cleaning is probably another option. Since you have a larger tank, a couple of tangs could mop it up relatively easily if there was a problem. Buy a crap ton of snails and throw them in the tank for a couple of weeks - and stop feeding the tank.

If it's bryopsis cleaning definitely won't do it.....HA on the other hand I'd agree on trying peroxide as Seth suggested.......

Lubeck have you read any of the articles about the plastisizers in eggcrate as a booster for the growth of hair algae? Seems a common problem. Even ad the LFS is you look to those that have frag tanks with eggcrate you will most always see some hair algae. Unless of course they have a foxface or tank in the frag tank also, which in my experience many of them do.

No way really?? Can you share a link or send me a pm. It's crazy because that's where 99% of the algae is which is creeping onto my corals now. There is only one patch the size of quarter on the two large rocks I have left in the DT. Btw there is no algae in the sump only in the DT.

This is just me talking now. What I would do is get the smallest foxface I could find and put it in the tank.
********waits for the flaming!!@!*******

lol, no flaming. I think it's a good idea - that or a small yellow tang.... Might be something to look into. Like rent it from a LFS if you could. lol
I've noticed that some eggcrate will have hair algae attach to it SO QUICK and sometimes nothing... no idea why. Maybe the chemicals the egg crate is made of?
