you have to see the reviews on it. IMO i would waste a little more and but better lights like the outer orbit. i heard that people that have odyssea have to do the wiring and change the external ballast. and also that the fans are loud!

I never hear great things about these and have even heard about them going on fire. Spend the extra money on a better light, you'll be MUCH happier in the long run.

I have a 24" odyssea MH and PC combo light and it works great. I did change out the ballast to a IceCap 250w one though. But over all, the unit is well built. There is a huge thread on reefcentral that people like it. Its the older model that people had issues with.
If your on a budget, it's a good choice to buy. Sorry, I am not spending over $500 on a light these days. (times are rough.. LOL)..

Seriously, don't do it.... As a experienced reef keeper and someone who is very knowledgeable about electronics/machines/etc... save yourself the future headache and ignore this light.
To make this light be worth anything in my opinion.... you would actually spend just as much money and time as you would have just buying a good light.
I mean, there is cheap and then there is this company.... Current USA makes cheap lights. If you can't afford a current light to suit your needs/tank/coral, then you might have a bigger appetite than stomach reefwise.
No offense to anyone who currently owns one or REALLY wants to buy one.
Look into a TEK T5 fixture... decently priced and amazing results. There is always the DIY retro fit option as well.

ok im scratching these lights from list...
Hows these lights
30” SunPod 1x250W HQI
Fixture by Current USA
I can get this $369 shipped? or if i go with the 150 watt its $270...which would be the way to go 150 watts or 250 watts? My tank fits a 30" exactly.....
24" Current USA Outer
Orbit 1x250W 10,000K
HQI-MH w/ 4x24W T5 HO
& 12 Lunar Lights*
for $499
or
24" Aqualight Pro - 1x250W HQI, 2x65W Actinic + 2 Led's
for $519
which would be suitable? Thanks guys
Now would it be ok just to have a metal halide without actnics?? Or do you recommend having a metal halide bulb with actnics?
Sorry for all the ??s i really appreciate you guys taking your time to help me out :)

I did not choose the Odyssea...BUT...there is a thread on this site somewhere (do a search) called Odyssea review I believe....the poster has been posting his ecperiences with his new Odyssea
I THINK...(can only say I THINK) that I read somewhere that they revamped them somehow
(but I wouldn't buy them either)

If you're replacing the ballast to the IceCap, which over powers your bulbs and therefore they don't last as long, you're spending just as much by buying the cheap light and upgrading, etc as just buying a better light.

Don't forget about the stock bulbs! OMG grosss..... and the stock 250w systems actually only put out about 176w with all original parts.

Probably did
. I have an older unit with 4 CF 230w total light that my freshwater tank now uses. I had to replace the wires at the connection of the light cause they were brittle from heat and had to add 3 computer fans to run it cooler. Its a coin flip with that company and its usually not in your favor.

Like anything else... if you use it enough it will need to be replace.
Oh and another thing, I will refuse to buy them 60$ to 100$ bulbs.. I buy ---- bulbs now, can't go wrong with 30$ a bulb.
Being in any hobby there is always the DIY'er guy that refuses to drop a ton of money into something, that he/she can get or build something cheaper.
Hey, I just saying that I have a good experience with this product. Maybe the next guy didn't have a good experience. It's how you approach/think at the time you were searching or going to buy the product.
