WOW! GREAT VIDEO!!!! Explain more in detail how the Wavemaker works and the timeing, equipment, pictures would be nice to
This is definatly what I am going to be doing to my reef, I have ALWAYS wanted that kind of movement!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE EXPLAIN demonstrate etc....

The Wavebox creates the majority of random movement in the tank. Basically, it pulses a stream of water across the length of the tank at a specific frequency that matches the resonance of the tank. Check out Tunze's website, and you'll find all you need to know about how it works.
The rest of the movement is created by waterflow from the Sea Swirls and eductors crashing into each other creating eddies.

I paid MSRP for the Wavebox; $450 if I remember correctly? The kit comes with everything that you need to get it going out of the box, but I also bought a pair of mounting magnets to make it possible to mount to my acrylic tank.

I used Weld-On #16 to glue an algae clip to the inside piece of the magnet.

I just think the tentacles were moving around too violently from all the water flow.
I had another video posted awhile back and got similar comments then. That area of the tank gets the same kind of flow 24/7, and that anemone hasn't moved since I put it there. It really seems to appreciate the flow. The clowns used to end up in the overflow boxes each night, but since they've moved in they haven't left the anemone yet.
I have another anemone of the same species currently located about a foot away in slightly less violent flow that has walked all over the right side of the tank looking for a suitable location; fortunately, it looks to have settled in where it is now (in what I'd call a high flow location).

besides aesthetics, is a wavemaker of any advantage in a reeftank? Does it affect coral growth and health in any way?

I remember snorkling in the Bahamas, you walked in from the beach and 6-7 feet from the shore there were tons of anenomes....getting whipped the the waves. I think they prefer this.

I don't think random movement of water has any direct effect on coral growth or health, but I do believe that corals need to be hit with flow from all directions to keep them fed and clear of detritus. Wavemaking makes it easy to accomplish this, but it is by no means necessary.

Awesome video! Made me want to break out my T&C 7' surfboard and ride some on your tank! No need for me to go to Montauk point in a couple of weeks if I had that at my house.
A note about the anemones...not to violent at all, stuck had it 100%...ive seen those suckers in near the shore being whipped around like mad, and recently, my LTA decided his fav spot is right next to a maxi-jet 900 blowing on him...go figure!
