has anyone ever bought anything "LIVE" from a *****...I just found out that a store opened about 40 miles from me, and was going there tonight...basically to see what chemicals, additives etc. they have, but the store told me they have sw fish, corals etc...and I was wondering what exeriences anyone has had with this place.

WOW...that's a definite response...I guess they are ok for packaged stuff like chemicals if you need them then???
Any specific on why they were terrible??? (just curious)

Chemicals and packaged things like that are fine, but they don't have a very large selection like a LFS would.
Every ***** I've been to had livestock tanks that looked like crap. Fish were very unhealthy. I can't believe they have "coral."

The one near my house is brand new. Sometimes the fish look a little raggad. I have bought chemicals there. The live rock and corals are so ridiculously priced (too high) and sometimes the fish are too.

"live" sand, that's it.
BTW, why is it that none of the *****'s in the Northeast have SWF departments?
Has mighty ***** acknowledged they can't get fish up here and keep them alive long enough to sell?

+1 yeah they always have ich, bacterial infections, under feed, etc... fish.
sometimes once in a while like once every 6 months they have a healthy fish or anemone
i got my female clownfish from there and she is doing great
but because the one near you is new, i dont think there would be any problems for about a month or 2
good luck, really study the fish u want to buy from there

I think I'll just stay away from the fish..and just get chemicals if I need them...thanks everyone for the feedback

The two *****'s around me are both terrible and good. The terrible part is that almost always their fish are sick and look horrible. The good part is that they almost always have something that they dont know what it is, for instance, I bought a very nice looking Rose Bubble Tip Anenome for $4.99 that ***** called a Condi Anenome. The second deal I got was a Gold Stripe Maroon clown that was priced as an Ocellaris Clown @ $14.99. My suggestion is to keep an eye on what they have and take advantage of their stupidity, but make sure you quaranteen everything that you buy from them.

dont do it bro. my friend used to work at a *****. they use the same sump for all their sw tanks, another sump for all their fw tanks. he told me that the water was literally BLACK. Also i know a guy really reliable source that used to work for another guy that sells and imports fish. he sells to alot of lfs around my area and told me that ***** gets the worst of the line stuff. what ever LFS do not want, ***** gets.

In truth, a ***** fish is no better or worse than any other fish you may buy. It is incumbent upon you to know how to choose a healthy fish no matter where you shop. You need to make sure that the fish's colors are bright, fins are undamaged, eyes are clear. You need to make sure that the fish is swimming in a normal manner (not hiding, nor erratic, frenzied swimming). You also should ask a worker to feed any fish you consider to make sure it is eating. If you do these things, and you are actually looking at a healthy fish, then it is no different if it comes from ***** than from any LFS. I've bought fish from ***** and had them do fine.

I would never buy from *****. I once stocked my tank with a couple of fish from ***** and they infected my fish with the weirdest disease i have ever seen. Heres a pic of my scopas who at one time had magnificent colors.

Just an update///went to *****, and was very UNimpressed...the coral beauty angel had white lips, the 2 carpet anemones were ragged looking, the poor lawnmower blennie looked hungry (new tanks, no algae) a clown was laying on the bottom looking sluggish....the tanks were very small, They didnt even have any chemicals for me to look at...OH well so much for a closer store...

same here. lost about $300 in fish that i bought from *****. and the other day i stopped in to look to see if they got any new books and i looked at the salt water fish they had and every fish and i really mean every fish had vary bad ick. they had a purple tang that was priced at over $100 and it was on its side breathing vary hard and dieing. i felt so bad for the fish that i just left with out looking to see if they had any new books because i could not support a company that puts so many fish though that.

one of my close friends used to work at the local ***** handling all the fish stuff. he said never to buy from them because of the qulity of fish they buy. the run on filter that is half the size it should be with no protein skimmer or any type of bio filtration. they really dont feed them as much as they should. he said once a week the manager would give the ok to feed all the fish some cheap *** food that was used ofr both fw and sw. the only good theing he could tell me was that he knew the supplier who sold the fish and he got me a great price on my clowns that i had. $5.00 each. they were very big and were mated.
i dont think the guy knew what he was doing when he sold me the fish. only buy drygoods from them. i dont even thing i would by the LR from them. to much of a risk

they do get some of the worst fish health wise i have ever seen. and i believe that if a company is going to sell fish that they need to do as much as possible to insure that the fish are in the best health that you can provide them. and ***** does not do that at all for the saltwater fish, and i wish they would either do some thing to improve or stop selling salt water fish.
