interesting ppl huh

Do *****'s have a refund policy?
If so, then I can understand they wouldn't want to sell a fish that is clearly dying. I am not sure if they do. But most stores closely track and document livestock losses in fish for accounting purposes. I had to do a daily tally of fish in an LFS. Pull them all out (fresh and salt) and keep a log of what species and how many died.
We wouldn't even sell people a fish that was still floating in the bag or within 24 hours after arriving because we had a very liberal refund policy.

at the ***** i go to all the time, as long as the one lady is there, the fish positively thrive, you hardly ever see dead fish, and they are always healthy looking, nice clean, and i mean spotless, tanks, and so on, but if she'snot there, especially on the weekends, you'll see dead fish everywhere
Basically what this means is that she is attentive to removing the dead fish and cleaning the tanks...not necessarily that they are surviving any longer.
Honestly, I think people are oblivious to the ACTUAL mortality rate of fish coming into this hobby. It is huge, especially 48-72 hours after arrival...irregardless of whether it is a ***** or LFS.

I went into a ***** in Virginia and asked the Manager if I could see the fish eat and she told me that they will not feed fish while the store is opened because they did not want little children seeing the fish eat because the child might believe the food is alive and it was against store policy. I was flabergasted and refused to even walk in the store ever again.

The ***** right by my house is actually decent. Ive bought 2 false percs and a LMB for my work tank, and another LMB for home. All turned out very healthy, awesome fish.
They did have a snowflake eel in one of those tiny little critter keepers that I wouldnt even keep a snail in, but someone wised up and freed it. I felt so bad for it. Thayve also had a green bird wrasse for a while who looks pretty happy.
Other than that, I but my salt and food there, plus stuff for my FW tanks. The LFS's near me pretty much suck.

I used to work for a ***** when I was in college and like a few people have said - they are hit or miss. Some stores actually hire people that know what they are doing, and some do not. Our fish were not bad, but another store in the area had to drop SW fish because they could not turn a good enough profit. My job was pretty much to try and keep the fish alive until they were sold. The ultimate job of a chain store General Manager is to turn a profit - to they will do anything to keeps costs low including not purchasing skimmers and replacement UV bulbs. I'm not defending *****, I actually think that their beaurocraic management system is awful, but understand that a lot of the better employees had their hands tied. I do know that in my store every fish was cared for - if they were sick, everything in my power was done to treat (again hands tied so no QT tanks or good meds), but in other LFSs in the area, if 1 fish in a bag looked bad, all of them were euthanized. Tell me what you would rather have: a few fish not looking so hot and an associate trying to heal them, or giving up on a bag of 20 fish because 1 looked bad?

I think that is matter what ***** you go to because I have one about a mile from my house that has a saltwater section better than some of my LFS. My live rock is from there, and my Ocellaris. The aquatics specialist there know their stuff too. There was a CB that had ich, and a guy wanted to buy it, but they had it in QT for like 3 months trying to get rid of it before they sold it too him. Most PETCOs wouldn't care. Some of my CUC is from their too. ***** in general isn't a good fish store, but there are some that have good aquatics sections.
Only thing is my ***** sold an hippo to a guy with a 20 gallon that had a YT and I was like
.
Just my $0.02

Lol, I was at ***** last night, and had half a mind to put in an application just to be their saltwater guy.... Because though I'm a rookie, I know I can do better than that....
Every fish was breathing rapidly and darting around the tanks.....poor colors, a yellow tang that was pale white and swimming on its side..... Sad

+ ONE on all the negative comments. I have 3 stores near me all are the same. They only thing I get there is floss the only place that sell it anymore. Funny from what I read the only fish that seams to live are the clown fish, right there that tells me something about the store.
