I used to work for a ***** when I was in college and like a few people have said - they are hit or miss. Some stores actually hire people that know what they are doing, and some do not. Our fish were not bad, but another store in the area had to drop SW fish because they could not turn a good enough profit. My job was pretty much to try and keep the fish alive until they were sold. The ultimate job of a chain store General Manager is to turn a profit - to they will do anything to keeps costs low including not purchasing skimmers and replacement UV bulbs. I'm not defending *****, I actually think that their beaurocraic management system is awful, but understand that a lot of the better employees had their hands tied. I do know that in my store every fish was cared for - if they were sick, everything in my power was done to treat (again hands tied so no QT tanks or good meds), but in other LFSs in the area, if 1 fish in a bag looked bad, all of them were euthanized. Tell me what you would rather have: a few fish not looking so hot and an associate trying to heal them, or giving up on a bag of 20 fish because 1 looked bad?
