37 gallon tank adventure

ok, well we caught the firefish that was getting beaten up and put it in our big tank.. its doing very well, eating and its fin is even growing back nicely. the only down fall is now the mean firefish is gone.. i took the entire tank apart looking for it and im sure it became my CUC dinner.. not sure what happened, the only thing i can think of is the rocks moved around thanks to our engineer goby and must have crushed it, same thing happened to my royal gramma
only i found half of it... so its been a sad couple days
I will take some pics tonight. Also, we had a blk/wht clown that had been really beat up and died the day we got it, its replacement finally came and its doing very well. So now were down to the blk/wht clown, an o. clown, a blue hippo tang (moving when it gets big enough), two yellow chromis and an engineer goby.

dory is getting freckles!! shows how small she is still

either she thinks shes a chromis or they are playing follow the leader

and as always an overview..

were debating what were going to put in the tank in its place... i was thinking either a pair of blue chromis or maybe a pair of pajama cardinals, it really stinks that we lost those two.

ADEE, what is your current stock list in that tank?
Everything looks great right now but as I've gone through this thread, it looks like you are waaay overstocked, (not to mention how quickly it was stocked). I'd stop adding fish until your biological filter can catch up with the bioload.
I have given you similar advice on your other thread. It's getting kind of tough to read through these things b/c, unfortunately, you seem to be headed for some serious problems.
I don't mean to keep criticizing you and your tanks... but you may want to consider taking this advice. Either way, I assure you that I will not offer further criticism about your tanks.

as i said in my other thread, i dont mind the criticism, i would rather get the wrath, put my pride aside and find out what im doing wrong so i can fix it, im well aware i dont know near everything i need to know and that i have a lot to learn... we have gone through purchasing fish only to find out the compatibility is less than ideal which has resulted in trips back to the LFS, we lost one that we purchased as a charity case that died within hours, weve lost a couple to our engineer who shifted unstable rocks, exc...with that said, i do get that "omg im in trouble" feeling i got as a kid in school, or about to face my parents with a less than perfect report card... but again, i know its in the best interest of my tank, fish, exc.
a complete list of whats living in my tank right now is:
fish:

2 yellow chromis
1 baby blue hippo tang (YES its moving out when it gets bigger)
1 blk/wht clown
1 o. clown
1 engineer goby
inverts:

1 cleaner shrimp
2 blue leg hermits
2 emerald crabs
2 red leg hermits
6 or 8 (Cant remember) snails
corals:

1 plate coral
2 zoos
1 metallic green hammer
1 gsp
1 mushroom
not that im adding anymore fish right now but i must ask.. how does someone know if their tank is "caught" up with its bioload? i hear that all the time and cant help but wonder

That bioload isn't too bad. But that begs the question... how many fish have you already lost in this tank?

To answer your question, you have to imagine every fish that you add to contribute more waste to the tank, and each time more bacteria have to be created to break down the waste. It's the same basic concept as the initial cycle, but you don't get the spikes unless you have too much bioload for your biological filter. Unfortunately the only thing that can be definitively seen is when your bioload has overloaded your current biological filter and you see measurable ammonia and/or nitrites. This is why you should always wait weeks or even a month between additions.

i just added that...
1 firefish & 1 royal gramma (Crushed in fallen rocks from engineer)
1 blk/wht clown that we bought because it was "beat up" and we though we could "Save" it.. it died within hours post acclimation
1 cleaner wrasse, died the day we got it.. upon research we found out they werent a great idea in a tank so we didnt replace it (Ate the money, store wanted to replace it)
so technically, 4.
1 strawberry dottyback (we took it back because it was beating up our other fish)
1 sand sifting star (we took it back because we didnt want it to starve)
1 yellowtail blue damsel (wasnt compatible, took it back)
