40 gallon beginner tank

This is my very first saltwater aquarium. We are starting with a 40 gallon tank for the time being due to inexperience. We decided FOWLR would be ideal for us new hobbyists. Here are my questions: I want to begin stocking with a small wrasse, I forgot the exact name, but I read he is extremely hardy & feeds on the unwanted worms, etc.. Next, I will do 2 clownfish. Now here's where I need help. I want a dwarf regal tang next and I really really want a fox face. That's a total of 5 fish in a 40 gallon tank. Also, I am still confused as to which invertebrates to put.

How exciting!

I hope you can find the name of the Wrasse you're looking at. Is it a Six-Line by chance? That would be a good choice.
I have not heard of a Dwarf Regal Tang, this is interesting. Can you point me to where you saw this?
If you want a Foxface I would suggest you make it the centerpiece and leave it as the only large fish.

Dwarf Regal Tang is another name for a hippo tang, which should not be in a 40 gallon system - tangs are open water fish who need lots of straight line swimming room, 5-6 feet is best. The cute little ones they sell are just too small, and don't survive. The 40 is just too short. The last of the bad news - have you looked at the adult size of a foxface? It, too, just gets too large for a 40 gallon system, imho. I haven't had a foxface, so others should chime in on this one. Look instead at some of the beautiful dwarf angels, or add a variety of wrasse. If you choose wisely you can mix wrasse safely (I keep 4 in my tank, no problems).
Most important of all, keep asking questions. You will get food advice here that is not motivated by the desire to sell you something. Good luck!

I have a fox in my 75. There very peaceful and excellent fish. But yes they do get big. 75 is border. Line for an adult. A 40 would just be too small. Idk if u already have the tank.if not maybe look into a 75. W marine tanks the bigger they are the easier they are to keep honestly.this would allow u more fish options as well. I have 2 clowns, fox,Mandy, red scooter blenny, royal gramma, purple fire, hectors goby, coral beauty angel and a pygmy hawk in my tank. All have there own personality and mix well
