Nice start ReeferTJ.....Welcome to the site as well!!!!!! I'd suggest purchasing a good skimmer rather than trying to DIY......

Welcome.
40G Breeder's are some of my favorite tanks for reef setups. I also agree that buying a good skimmer is a better idea than a DIY. With the 30G sump, you might actually be able to get away without a skimmer, at least short term if you can't afford a good model right away.
Good luck.

I only suggested purchasing a skimmer vs DIY for 1 simple reason. It's not an easy DIY project.....There is a lot more to building a skimmer than putting pieces together....For them to be efficient and work properly there is a science or a lot of toying with sizes of bodies, necks, and pumps that go into the process.

Hey thanks for the welcome. As far as getting a skimmer i got one from a friend brand new its a "Marineland In-Sump Protien Skimmer" I personally havent heard anything about it. But hell is a freebee. Its rated for 100g so I've got high hopes for it. Got the CPR Overflow on the way with the Aqua-Lifter Pump, they should be here on Jan. 6th .....Ooh Me and a friend are building the stand for my tanks this weekend (weather permitting) So yeah that's weekly update....Ill get a pic of the skimmer tomorrow
