Im finally coming back to this hobby after after a few years away due to a lot of moving around and space limitations. I was given a 5.5g a couple years ago that was set up as a freshwater tank. My nephews just got a tank and want my fish. Im thinking of doing a saltwater tank and I know my filter is no where good enough. Are there any suggestions on what would be a good idea? Im planning on a fish only tank with some live sand, live rock and 1 fish.

If it were me I would find a way to get a good circular flow going and leave it at that. If they still make those 50gph rio powerheads those are small enough to hide and have a good flow rate for a 5 gallon.

Add some macroalge (prolifera would be perfect)... in such a tiny tank the water quality can go bad fast, the macro will help keep to keep the water quality good.
