Crap. Do as many water changes as you can- you need to do atleast a 50% over a day or two. The ammonia is going to be around for a bit. Also if you have not already RUN to your nearest LFS and buy Amquel or Ammo Lock or Prime and a polyfilter. The Chemicals will make the ammonia less toxic. The Poly Filter will remove ammonia. I have all fingers and toes crossed for your little fishies. Do not worry about letting the water sit for 24 hours, you van not take that chance IMO right now- better to leave it for a couple of hours and aerate the heck out of it.

wwo!! sorry to hear taht man!!! How did one die?!! You said they didnt look too good after you moved the rocks...... but do you know why? was the amonia already high before that? It must have been i think, cause i cant think of a way that moving your rockwork would cause such a quick, and high amonia spike....... Good luck and make sure to follow through on everyone people suggested above.

the other 4 seem fine they have all started a new burrow! they are mostly seperate i think but about 2 inches from each other. It is so sad that he is gone now i will never be able to get another one to replace him but thats ok. I think i will stop on fish for a long time and start on corals, when everything settles down. I am starting a refugium today.

4 snails 4 hermits and both of the peppermint shrimp, but if you remember their delivery had been delayed by a day and were sitting in basically a bag of ammonia.

Phew, I have gone all day but was anxious to check in and see how things were going. The Prime or Ammo Lock will not actually lower the readable amount of ammonia when you test- just detoxifies it to an extent. You may already know this- sorry if I am telling you things you already know............those water changes really helped. Have you checked your pH? Do you dose a buffer at all? An ammonia spike can cause a pH drop, check alkalinity levels to see how much buffer is available in your water if you can.

i tested the water about 3-4 hours ago and it was back up to 1 or 2 ppm! :scared:
the nitrates were 1. i havent tested the ph recently.

But you are still dosing Amquel or what ever right? Do you have any buffer? I actually think I read some where that a lower pH makes high ammonia levels less toxic to the fish for some reason, but you don't want a huge pH dip either. If you have a 8.3 buffer or something you may want to consider adding it with your next water change. Hang in there, I have faith that you and your jawfish can win this battle. Are you able to do another water change soon?
