The first batch of babies was 5 weeks old on saturday. The second batch is 3 weeks.
I moved the first batch to a 5 gal tank to clean and change a couple of things in thier tub. I counted roughly 110.
I have no clue as to how many 3 weekers there are, I will count them later.
They are getting pretty big. some are about 2 1/2 to 3 inches. some smaller. I am having trouble keeping up with thier eatting demands. lol
The bigger ones are eatting a little cyclops. I am going to add shaved mysis back and see if I can get them to eat that too.
I will get some pic in a bit, battery is charging

Teresa, what is your method of training them over to frozen?
Is it possible to keep them feeding on live or would you not be able to provide enough live to sustain them? Just curious.
I have a new brood that I have seperate because of the color morph that I am thinking of trying to wean onto frozen. Right now, I leave mine eating live. While I am dedicated, I imagine that alot of them that are sold probably end up starving.

Big breed horses need mysis to thrive. I could not afford to feed them on that. Its better for them to learn to love frozen. Right now, at this age, I am giving them frozen cycops first feeding, then later in the day, I add 2 to 3 day old bbs. I will also start adding shaved mysis to the cyclops. slowly I will add more and more frozen and less live.
I really hope they start pigging out on mysis soon. lol

I am taking a big hit on deaths right now. I guess they arent taking to frozen very well, along with keeping the water clean. It seems like it fouls very easy. I moved the younger ones to a 20 gal yesterday. I am also having problems with bbs hatching. uggg. I sure hope a few survive.

Bummer....Keep us posted, I hope some at least make it. Is there any possibility to let a few 6 week old babies stay with mom and maybe seeing her eat could teach them? I don't know a thing about them, it just seems plausible.

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that. Although from what I've read, this sounds about right...there's generally a lot of attrition during the frozen weaning stage. Here's hoping!!!

It's funny you should mention the bad hatches. I have had quite a few, many, many more failures than usual. I usually use SF Bay brand and switched to another just to see because I can't keep having such crappy hatches and keep my guys fed and happy.
Fingers crossed that you have some pull through!

Yah, I have been using SHS decap egg, and ran out. this last week or so I have been using SF brand. Even trying to decap myself, and getting really bad hatches. I have another order in from seahorsen source.
