Any reason why you weren't able to finish?
If I were to work with 4x4s, I'd have to plane them.... straighten them out. I don't like working with 4x4s at all unless absolutely necessary.
At least you didn't make the mistake of using pressure treated wood!!

I like the stability of the 4x's...especially when i made the stand for the 150...didnt really need them for this one but my husband pretty much demanded, cuz hes very worried about weight

4x4's offer no more stability than a properly sized beam.....If you take a look over on the big forum about the stand template thread you'll see it can be accomplished without using 4x4's saving room and money. Heck my big tank doesn't even have 4x4's in the stand. Stand is rock solid and overkill at that.

I agree I used only 2x6 and 2x4s on my stand for my 125 and I can guarantee its over engineered for the weight it needs to hold. a bit of construction adhesive and proper bracing makes for a really heavy duty stand.

Im right there with ya... I even had an Engineer look at my last stand for my 150g and he said it was WAYYYY overkill... but that it works well...and of course my husband was all over that...so he wanted me to build the new one just the same... FOR A 50G TANK, lol

Yup. Nice stand.
Ive always used 2x4s. Even for my old 240g tanks.
I think i am going to try a new style on my next build where i just use plywood and a pocket holer kinda like what 2Quills did. Built right, its stronger than anything else.

Looks good....I would also line the top of the stand as well.....If you would happen to get water on the top you'll have issues.

Unless the tank breaks there wont be an issue... im putting foam padding (the kind for laminate flooring) under the tank and up the sides of the skin when I put it on...
The skin will be 2 inches taller than the top of the stand to hide the ugly black trim on the tank/sand on the bottom inside :)
