Hey extinct! I have a 55 as well and I have been wanting to switch from canister to sump. So, can I pick your brain?

Jas1 - What do you mean pick my brain? If you mean copy my refugium design, sure.
Did you build the fuge tank? How many gal's? If you could get a pic of the overflow and return too?

Amiracle Slim Line Filter (Going to make a refugium inside of it )
DIY PVC Powerhead + Pump (Tons of flow)

What are these?

Jas1 -
Filter is gone.
The PVC + Pump is the return pump.
Yes, I built the refugium, it's just a 10 gallon. Let me see if I can get some closer pics

Sorry, I could't get a good enough picture of the overflow, but basically it's just pvc that comes down into the refugium. And on the return pump here are 2 pictures from when it's inside the refugium and as it is going up the back, from there it's just pvc pipe that flows into the tank.

Jas1 - DT? My dad pretty much plumbed the whole thing so I'm really not sure...all I really know is that we pretty much just used PVC.

grape capulera is a very tricky algae... sometimes like enjoys going sexual for no reason at all.... so if you water clouds up one day it could be the GC releasing its spores...
other than that the GC is great for removing nitrates and phosphates!! Make sure you have plenty of strong light on it and prune it every other week

DT=Display Tank. Took me a min to figure that one out. What I am asking is how did you get the pvc lines to stay in place up on the tank assuming they just go up and over the rim and down into the water and do you have an overflow box? Just tryin to figure it out I like your setup because you did it without drilling any holes

Jas1 - Ohh, ok. Lol. Yes, we used the overflow box from the filter we got rid of. Here's a picture...sorry it's vertical, lol...it was the only way I could take the picture.
