55g Seahorse Tank

Well he is the setup stages. i now have the first addition, a yelow whatchman goby. he will be alone for another 6 days, if all the parameters go right i will get a sand ssifting goby, then if everything goes right we slowly move into the seahorses and pipefish.

thats where we just set it up and added sand and the protien skimmer ^

it's easier to do videos wit my little camera since my dads camera sucks quality wise. i wanna get a new camera for christmas or something for fish picture taing and tuff. i almost got them downloaded. my goby is awesome, hehe

i lost the video between that last one and getting the goby. so it goes from sandy to rocky. not much rock yet but every time i add a fish i will get more. this guy at the lfs has a nice plan for it all.
here is my little ??. can you tell hat he is? boy or girl? i wanna name him walter, he looks like a grumpy old man, haha.
guy says he is near full grown. i just gave him his first mysis tonight.

last night he lost alot of color and was pinkish, is that normal? he is bright yelow and fine tonight btu what happened?

hehe, thanks. in i think 5 days, if everything goes well, i'll be getting a sand ifting goby, wich my sand needs, heh. the ph droped and nitrite and nitrate went up last night fro having a fish in there but i'm working on it. when i get the next fish i will be getting mroe rock. mroe roc every time i get mroe fihs. excuse the typos, i'm still half asleep...even though it's 2 >_>

thats good to here. i need to move some chaeto in to the tank. i dn't have much really to move into it but the more the better ig uess.
ok well hereis the problem.
ph dropped the first day i had the fis, added some chemicals, there now back to 8.4 again
nitrate jumped to 5-10 the first day and now it's about 15 maby 20!
nitrite was .5 the first day and now .5-1.
what do i do about the high nitrate and the kinda high nitrite? do i just let it go? ammonia, since the first day i got the goby, has staid 0 the entire time.
so what do i do? i don't want my new fishy to have problems with it

Just make small water changes daily....not to fast, just 5 or 1- percent.

is all that black puffy algae on the rock bad? it's real uggly...other tanks have liek purple and bright green and red algae and all i get is ugly black puffy crap.

Your tank still needs time to mature. It takes time for the bio filter you are trying to grow to catch up with your load. Wait at least 2-3 wks between additions so it can stablize.
Make sure you live rock is fully cured and get the lfs to put it in water not news paper or you will still have a little dieoff.
The coraline algea comes with time , good para., and you have to have a little on some rock to seed the tank. I had lots on my lr and I think it was around 4 months before it really took off.
When you look for lr try to find some with at least a little purple to seed your tank. Then you can scrape the coraline and let it float around your tank, or place the lr with it on it in front of your ph. Hope some of this helps. Patience is the most important additive.

yeah, on these gobies ig et at first i will giv them a week or so to stabilise, then before i get pipefish and seahorses i wil give them like 2-3 weeks to stabalize. I will be getting more rock every time i add a fish until it gets up to about 50 lbs.

I have a 55g with seahorses, Don't put too much rock in there the seahorses enjoy stuff to hitch on, as well as plenty or room to swim. about 5-7x flow

it's been a week tomorrow, cause last wednesday was when i got the goby, and all the water stats have stabilized.
tomrorow, i MAY be gettign a diamand goby. and maby a couple clean up crew members.
is a pistol shrimp ok with seahorses or no? ther cool, and i know they bunk wit gobies.

ok, no diamond goby, since they both live int he same spot they said they wil most liekly be fine but there MAY be a possibility fo terretorial stuff. so i don't even wanna risk the 1% chance.
so i got a few crew members tonight.

some sort of conch wiht a smooth brownish shell
2 turbo snails, one with something red growing on it, can't wiat to see what the heck it is
and a sand sifting starfish to take the place of the sand sifting goby (diamond goby).
there acclimating right now and i'll have video soon. there so awesome, the conchs littel eyes look up and are like "what teh heck are you ya freak?" and the starfish moves very slowly, he just looks like he slides. there awesome, and most likely the cleanup crew i will need. i may get mroe snails later on but thsi is all i need for now.
