700 gph overflow box

Just because the overflow is rated for 1500 GPH doesn't mean that you have to have a flow that strong. You could get that overflow and then a pump that does around 800 gph and it would work just fine.

In short......yes. Should be just about right.
More thought,
Depends on what you intend to keep in the sump or refuge. It also depends on your skimmer. IMO, being real close to the rating of the box is somewhat important. Flow to little and you will have issues with the siphon tubes accumulating bubbles. Worse yet, if you don't catch the air bubbles it will slow down the flow and or break the siphon and flood you out.

actually there will be no siphon tubes.... I'm going to drill a hole and make it gravity fed.. i found this nice kit at glass-holes.com (i found the site off these forums
)

Very nice.

thanks, the only problem is i haven't decided between the 700 or 1500 gph kit...
i wanna put the OFB at the end of the tank which is 12" and the 1500 is 12 1/4" so it wouldn't fit :( . thats why i was wondering if the 700 would work

It would seem then, that in order for you to get what you want the 700 is the way to go. The 700 is right in the middle of the 5-10 times rule. That is why I said you should be just about right. I mentioned other things cause, a skimmer is best served a protien rich water and a slow flow so you get good contact time. But too slow and you will be skimming effulent and that is not good cause it is a waste of time and electricty.
In short...you will be just fine with the 700 GPH box. Glass holes kit comes with a 1 1/2" bulkhead which is sweet. This will ensure a nice and quiet drain.

I personalty think its overkill even if you wanted a 10X turnover rate thats 550 gph As far as a pump you always want your pump to be rated at less then your overflow rate

I guess I slipped on my math a little bit. Oops.%%
I still don't think it is overkill. A bigger drain is always better. You should also get more surface skimming with that box. I don't know the specs off hand of thier designs, but it makes sense.
