75 gal to 180 gal transition

the new tank is in place. we have filled it with water and there are no leaks. one small problem, i can't fit the 55 gal i got for the sump under the stand. i think i can do it by removing one of the supports. i just hope it never has to come out again.

btw the move went really well. i probably shouldn't have joked about it but my secret weapon was a casket dolley. i have family in the funeral home business. it worked great even though it was a little creepy.

i'm afraid there may not be much progress for a few days. i kind of broke the pump. the previous owner had glued everything together and i was unable to get it apart. the good news is i found a replacement part for $9.00. should be here soon. i guess that's the down side to buying a used tank.

until then, i will be working on the sump and the plumbing.

i have some rock that has not been in a tank in years but that is how i will start this one and for sand i have not used sand in the past but plan on putting sand in the 180 what is the cheapest way to put that much sand in the 180 (2.5 to 3.0") is that about right

starting to work on the plumbing,

ordered a "scwd" and mag9.5 so i am playing with some secondary return plans and testing with the mag12.
also play with the sump had trouble finding 1/4" sheets of acrylic sooooo??? i used 1/8th" that is not working very good. so out it comes. will have to order some 1/4" tuesday. but thats of because i had to order bulkheads for the tank as the ones in the tank had to cut out to move the tank so just a few setbacks, but we will get there.

p.s. good news the 75gal has stoped leaking

so should give use some more time

ok had an idea i will cross support the sheets and see how that will work. i will do one, test if it works i will do the rest of the baffles.

ok, did not want to chance the 1/8 sheets, have the 1/4 sheets have remove the 1/8 and going put the 1/4 in. also leak tested the 180 and no leaks. will have the new bulkheads in a day or two so i am starting to make water tonight. hope to have it running on sunday

Looks good. Shouldn't you have but the sump in the stand and set it up before you add water and or test it? Keep up the progress.

Have you though about removing the end of the stand and sliding the sump in that way, and re-attaching the side with velcro or maybe on a hindge incase you do ever have to remove it?

sorry out so long, i do have some updates. some are good and some are not so good.

ok did not get all of the parts that i had ordered, the first sump did not go good, had to go with the 1/4" sheets. that is now working very well.

as for getting the sump under the tank, that was not the hard. just removed one of the front supports, and in it went.

so now it is running full of water for a test. pump, lights, top, all running.
some more bad news, it is very loud

the rest of the parts came in so now i am just trying to find time to to put everything together. i am still working on the noise problem. i have some more ideas to try. stuffing a towel in the top of the overflow works great but i don't think that qualifies as a long-term solution. the only thing i have left to buy is the sand.

it's running

got the noise stoped and the scwd hooked up, it works good that thing is cool, still have some ajusting to do the plumbing in the tank off of the scwd but that will come as the stuff from the 75 gets move in. i have also put the base/dead rock that i had in the tank today for a base, also have 140lb live sand on the way. looks like we are on the way to a good start
