Hello,
I plan on having a 90g tank set up with in the next couple of days...i have the tank stand, sump and all that stuff on order and hopefully by the end of the week it will be good to go. I am going to set up a reef tank with about 100-120lbs of live rock. My only question is...once the system has had a couple weeks to set up...what should be the first couple of fish, inverts and corals i should put in?
any feed back is welcome...thanks
Ryan

I always like to start with inverts once my parameters are checking out and I'm positive the tank is cycled.

what kind of inverts would u put in first..besides hermies, snails, and things like that?
eventually i would like some starfish, crabs, shrimp, urchins...would u put those in first...or after some fishies have made their new home in the tank

Most starfish need established tanks.
I'd add in this order:
Snails/Hermits
Shrimp
Coral - if you're doing a reef
Fish
more inverts to balance out clean up crew once fish are added (at this point you could probably do an urchin)
Starfish - after 6 months

thanks a lot for your help....pretty much answers my question.
unless anyone else would do anything different? im assuming people would change it up a little bit...but the order is pretty much the same?

The only thing that I would go back and suggest would be watch to make sure you have completed the cycle process. 2 weeks may not be enough. As far as the order of fish you want to put your least aggressive fish in first then put your aggressive fish in. Also I would suggest you do no more than 2 fish at a time. Wait 2 weeks between putting others in. This way you can watch for the effects and change in your system between adding critters. Slow is the way to go.
Good Luck. I love my 90.

when u first start off, u want something hardy like hermits and snails. as for fish, what do u hv in mind? least aggressive to most aggressive isnt always a good idea. u also hv to take hardiness into consideration.

what i was thinking for fish was:
2 clowns - probably black and white
2 tangs - one yellow and one blue hippo
some royal gramma
and my gf really wants a pajama cardinal (or pj as she calls it :p)
Corals:
anything colourful and fun (aka not really sure what corals i want/can get)
Inverts:
hermies and snails
shrimp
starfish
crabs
urchin
anemones
how i wanted to do it was (in order):
initial clean up crew
2 clowns
anemones
crabs and shrimp
royal gramma
urchin
some corals
starfish
and finally some tangs
Does anyone see an issue with any of that?
again...any imput welcome :)

That's BS, both can survive a cycle.
But it's not recommended. This person is new to the hobby, why have them start off on the wrong foot and take the risk?
Anemones are largely made up of water, therefore having ideal water parameters and established water makes if far easier for them to survive and stay healthy.
Are you going to argue with me in every thread I post on now?

Like I said before, I'm stating my own opinions.... if you can't handle it ignore me and carry on with your hondas and graffiti.
Most anemones are hardy as a damsel, its the moving and crap that sucks about them. Starfish for the most part as well.. not as tough as nems IMO but still...

That's my husbands photobucket. And he's an artist and mechanic, so calm down.
Stating your own opinion is fine, calling mine and others BS is wrong.

If you have any questions about starfish (a specific type you want, how to care for it, etc.) PM Ophiura.

Come on. Give your advice, I'll give mine. Do you need to be this immature? Not for nothing, you didn't just call my advice BS, that's just wrong. There's no need to play G*D on the forum, especially with under 100 posts. Give your advice, I'll give mine and be done with it. There's no need for this. You've now turned two threads away from their original purpose.
To the poster that started this thread:

As I stated above, if you have starfish questions, PM Ophiura, she knows just about everything there is to know about starfish, when to add, what to feed, etc.
The order for stocking your tank looks good, I'd do it that way and apparently other would as well. If you really feel the need, you can try an anemone earlier, BUT, if you're new to this hobby, I just don't suggest it since most people have issues with them. From what I've seen, I would honestly wait until your tank is more established and you have a go with a couple corals and fish before I'd add an anemone.
