hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm im really leaning towards the twin bulb thing from petsmart, cause, 40w of light versus 18w of light LOL besides, i plan on havin it sit about 6" above the top of the tank, roughly due to the light stand ill build for it LOL

my first salt water tank was a 1gallon deco art aquavase lol..

ive seen a 2.5 drilled with a 10 gallon sump? it might have been a 5gallon i cant remember but it looked great. Kinda defeats the purpose of the tank being 2.5 gallons tough

this is very true LOL why would u do a 2.5g tank witha sump twice or 4 times the size of the DT? that makes no sense whatsoever LOL

i mean yeah it would help A LOT because theres a lot more water volume, harder to F it up. But you basically cut down on all the display area with a 2.5gallon and if you have room for a big sump you might as well go with a bigger tank so you can hold more like maybe make the 2.5gallon a sump and the 10 a display. The only logical reason would be for the challenge of a 2.5gallon but theres not much challenge with a sump. Just a though...i mean i thought about putting a sump on my 5.5gallon but i didnt have enough room.

i can make the room for a 2g sump easy, and i just tested the powerhead/pump an it works, i dont know if its enough for what i need though, crapness, i might need to buy a maxijet 400 still as it is, sucks but ohw ell LOL

well there's always an allure to an itty bitty tank and if you can fix the inherent instability of one by having a huge sump by hiding it and not telling anyone... you've essentially killed 2 birds with one stone.
1) ooh ahh its itty bitty, you have cool stuff in it..
2) less headaches because you can pack carbon, rowaphos, chaeto, autotopoff, extra liverock, etc... in that little hidden untold sump hahaha.
I thought about doing another aquavase like that.. where there's no equipment in it and people go "WTH?" when they look at it...

then they try and fail and you can laugh at them
hahaha "my 2.5 is pretty stable, I dunno what you're doing wrong lol... I don't even run a fuge, carbon, etc.. (lies)"
google that pump "penguin 550 specs"

Penguin 550 Power Head delivers a constant flow and provides increased surface agitation with a fully adjustable aeration feature. This maximizes oxygenation throughout an undergravel filter to provide a viable biological filtration site for the growth of beneficial bacteria.
The mounting system provides total mounting versatility and the lift tube adapter fits all popular diameters and heights. The adjustable mounting bracket includes an optional suction cup mount. The powerhead also includes a venturi with with an adjustable aeration valve and 8” of tubing to maximize oxygenation. Penguin's single moving part construction means no messy assembly, no oiling and virtually no maintenance. The epoxy sealed moisture-proof motor and electrical components ensure safe operation in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
Specifications:
Flow Rate: 145 gph
is 145gph enough? well, that should translate to about 70x an hour turnover, so that should be more than sufficient, correct?

might be too much? Why not get a ac70 and mod it into a fuge and just use that as your flow? you can always cut the propeller or w.e to make it less

cause i really want the sump LOL i need the practice for one, and i just think it will look neat having a 2g sump/fuge for a 2.5g tank LOL and it will give me a lil bit more in the way of options by having a separate sump/fuge LOL

wait are you using the penguin as a return or just a powerhead inside the display? Id get a maxijet for the return and you might be ok with just that depending on how strong of one you got?
